Best Free Antivirus Software

Looking for the best free antivirus software...

It would be nice if you tell me also why did you choose this specific software...Thanks!

I too prefer Avast if I went with a free solution.

MSE is another good choice.
Both are not resource hogs or obtrusive.

My choice for avast over MSE free is that avast has more features like the "sandbox"
However, avast free doesn't come with a firewall.
For W7 that is no big deal being the os and firewall is fine.

I personally prefer MSE, as it's lighter and seems to work pretty well. Avast is a good second choice though. Also, I've personally found the sandbox more annoying than anything else. (No, please do NOT sandbox the printer driver for me, as I don't think it will work very well that way...)

OP, The sandbox is an added security feature for online banking as it creates a wall between your machine and the sandboxed browser.
However, if you practice safe surf habbits and avoid dark websites, it really shouldn't be needed.

A lot comes down to what makes one feel comfortable.

In case you were wondering, it's a Brother printer driver package that wanted to sandbox. I hate AV software for that sometimes... (Also, when I'm downloading a file from a known good website, so I don't want the AV hogging all my CPU cycles and slowing down Explorer just so it can scan it!)

True. Still, I remember one time where I was trying to fix a teacher's printer. I downloaded the driver from HP, and while McAfee was taking it's merry time scanning it, I was late to my next class. Grrr...

You can go for avast! pro antivirus which is free and highly protective.

In my opinion the best choices among the free anti-virus software products would be either Avast or Avira. I personally use Avast and it has many features such as web-filter, email scanner, and real-time protection. It works good.

I personally prefer the less known Unthreat Antivirus. I've had trouble with a few of the leading brands (Avast, AVG) so I decided to try Unthreat and I'm very happy with it!

but does anyone think that's the best free one? oh wait... I think its just the trial that's free.

Avira Free Antivirus combine with zone alarm or similar firewall. Zone alarm have free antivirus with firewall product. Pc tools is also great free antivirus choise.

I heard Avast is very good, my friend 2 years using. Of course the free version will not have all features, but for the use of the Internet is enough

AVG>= Avast

AVG made my PC a bit sluggish but Avast has been good. So Avast gets a thumb up..

You can choose the Avast anti virus that is free and it is good security system.

According to my Knowledge you should go with a paid version of anti virus. Main Reason of my telling is that you cannot get help from the virus removal services team of your antivirus. So my personnel thinking is that you used a paid version of anti virus.
