This is the best review that I have read so far, because it is thorough and exceeds my perspectives. Kudos

"...the tablet is still about 0.2 pounds too heavy for no-thought-required one-handed operation..." What an observation !! "0.2" pounds? The man is a genius and an expert on ergonomics!!

Well I am glad this article came out. 1)The reason they didn't put an expansion slot is because of the Cloud access. They put a lot of money into something not a lot of people are intrested in. 2) They didn't need the gps. it was kinda waste. GPS uses a lot of power. I doubt that has changed. 3) 8 gig? what was google thinking without the sd slot... it kinda kills it. I am going for the 16gig. I have the 2 16gig sd's, but I guess i'll use the for my camera.....so sad

Actually. the average 7" is about .75 lbs or with a .3 variant. So that is standard for a 7".

Nice review, and well put comments on cloud, and wifi services. I've bought into the whole AppleTV, wireless streaming everything, music, backup, etc., etc., in my home, and home office. Current services from AT&T and most home DSL providers are not up to the task of meeting the content model that we've been sold. All it takes is a major software update downloading to choke wireless music streaming, TV or movie streaming and all those other things. On device storage is STILL the still the practical reality. We early adopters of the wi-fi and network technologies are getting screwed!!!!

Another thing I saw, was that by putting the sd-card slot in, you're using the sd-cards formatted using FAT, which then opens up Microsoft to collect licensing. To save an estimated 5 dollars a machine, the sd-card was dropped to stop MS getting a cut. Why the Galaxy Nexus didn't have it either it's believed.

The 4 pin slot at the bottom could be used for a 4 pin USB

Well, for someone who has no interest in watching movies on a 7 inch screen (that is what the 42 inch plasma is for in my living room!) and for someone who doesn't play video games, and who doesn't even want to listen to music on anything other than a high quality home hi-fi system, and who only plans to use it to surf the web and check email, I think this machine will be perfect! Why all the 'hate' out there?

Why do you people keeps saying it's not an Ipad killer. What would I buy both of them? No! I have an Ipad 2. If there had been a choice back then I would have rather paid 199 for a phone with a big screen. Sure the Ipad is a bigger screen, but would I pay double? I think I could even go with 8GB. With my android ICS phone I have all my pictures and music in the cloud and even on my phone 99% of the time I'm accessing that content through wifi.

So the Ipad I mentioned in my post was bought by my wife. I agree with you. I watch videos on my TV. I have Ipods and my phone to listen to music. Having a bigger screen is nice, but an unnecessary expense. It's just a toy. If you can afford to blow 500 on a toy Ipad or 200 on a Nexus 7 then that's great, but the practical side of me says I can do all this with my phone so why waste money.

I think this was a really solid review. It looks like Google is learning to package an offering to the mass market and not just to us techno-geeks who root our phones. They may have in fact learned something by watching Amazon closely. Read: http://www.epinions....nt_592298479236 . It should be interesting to see what The Kindle Fire 2 is going to bring to the party.

I am sorry the reviewer did not at least mention the other technical features, like GPS and accellerometer. Main use for NFC is likely to be point-of-sale terminals. Not mentioning is sort of like saying does-not-have.

I agree with you Totally

Why all the hate... I think its because people keep thinking you should have everything everywhere in one stupid machine & I disagree having access to it all would be great but for me its not required I'm with you on this one I have 16GB on my vibrant packed with music I have no time to listen to except while driving and my aux jack plays it clearly over my system speakers I have 16GB on my Galaxy SII which is my cellphone for now as im not interested in the galaxy SIII If i want to watch TV I go home which is rare as I dont have the time to be entertained In any event the problem im still having is to access email from my phone SUCKS BIG TIME i want the tablet cause it has a bigger screen the sII screen is bigger than the samsung vibrant but still not big enough for web usage my hands are not small but there not interested in carrying around my gigantic toshiba laptop or zooming and scrolling on any smart phone to read BASIC EMAILS & DOCUMENTS i will be ordering a Nexus 7

GPS is particularly notable as something the iPad only offers on its 3/4G models—the wifi models don't provide real GPS.
If I dispute one single point in a post, that should not be taken as an indication that I agree/disagree with any other point made by that poster or anyone else in the thread. Or anywhere else. Ever.

Setting aside the Nexus One, the Nexus line of devices haven't had MicroSD slots. The Nexus S did not. The Galaxy Nexus did not either. And both of those sold well. The Nexus line up are Google Experience devices, and part of that experience is using Google's cloud services. If you don't want that, you'll have to wait for another OEM to offer an alternative you want.

The Google Nexus 7 is very sad. I used to own a Motorola Xoom and it never worked right. I ended up ditching it for an Ipad 3. So I was excited to come back to Google and ordered the Nexus 7. Then I thought about and canceled two hours later. It has a single front facing camera at 1.2 MP. Really! The largest storage is 16 G Really! Every table I have owned I use between 18 and 20 G just out the gate. So I canceled. I was told I would receive an official cancellation within 48 hours. No cancelation came. I called and they said something must have happened and they would take care of it. No cancellation came. Five days later I check my credit card statement and they had charged me for the Nexus even though it was not going to ship in three weeks. The standard is charge when shipped. I called and they said it is just a pre charge. I said what is the point you will have to get an authorization anyway when you ship in the mean time they have put 272 on hold after I have called four times to cancel. Google is off the rails. Run do not walk away from this product. It is made by a manufacturer that has problems. Do Not Buy.

I have to reply to this post because i find it a bit off the wall. First off, this tablet isnt sad, show me another tablet for $199 or $249 that is faster or better then the nexus 7. You cannot compare a $500 tablet to this, it is not a "feature packed" tablet that blows the doors off everthing else but i would easily choose this tablet over the kindle or toshiba and you cannot compare it to an ipad (which i think is over priced junk anyway). Secondly asus is a good brand, one of the best in my opinion, and show me a manufacturer that does not have any problems.... Im not making the nexus 7 out to be king of all tablets but i would buy it for sure!
