Won't even go into fragmentation and finger-pointing in regard to Android OS rollouts. All I know is from now on, if I buy an Android phone it will be a Nexus (because I'm tired of this and tired of all the garbage that ends up on other Android phones). If my Sensation doesn't get Jelly Bean, I'll go the XDA route.

Seriously if getting the latest mobile OS is so important then the simple solution is leave Android which is pretty much a guessing game and get an iPhone or iPad. Hell the iPhone 3GS is gonna get iOS 6 and it was released 3 years ago. Love or hate Apple, their mobile devices are more reliable with updates and security than Android.

I think that this PDK will give developers much more freedom to push out their own roms. This could completely change the way the Mobile phone industry works. With these developers able to make roms specific to devices, the carriers/phone makers will HAVE to keep up or they will just have all respect lost (even more so).

Keep in mind that the 3GS's iOS 6 has a lot of features stripped out to make it lighter. It's not really the same iOS 6 that the newer devices have.

They already do. The carriers and phone manufacturers sit on it for so darn long that it's downright easy for people on xda to make ROMs faster than them. (and if anything, those ROMs are known to work better than the official ones)
