Our whole family of 3 bought Android phones yesterday. We almost bought Windows phone (Nokia 900), but after doing some research online, we found out that Microsoft's new upgrade (version 8) will not be compatible with any Windows phone in the current market.

What a loser Microsoft is....

Considering Microsoft is well known for having long lasting backwards compatibility, I am inclined to doubt that any "online research" you may have done was flawed.

No. It's true. Microsoft verified at its recent unveiling of Windows Phone 8 that it would not be compatible with any of the existing Windows Phone smartphones out there.

That said, I agree that Microsoft has a solid track record of providing backwards compatibility--to a fault. It is generally so focused on maintaining backwards compatibility that prevents moving forward with cutting edge tools and features. Sometimes you have to draw a line in the sand in order to take the next step, and in this case it seems Microsoft is doing that.

None of that has anything to do with Windows 8, though, or adding and managing user accounts in Windows 8.

Please are you saying that windows phone 7 is not compatible with windows 8 or windows phone 8.
If you are talking of windows phone 7 not being upgradable to windows phone 8 you are correct.
However, beware that the Android phones you just bought may not be upgradable to the next version of Android OS.
Microsoft windows phone 7 have had the most upgrade than any android phones. None of the OS, be it android, ios (iphone) and windows phone will upgrade their phone forever. Microsoft has given about 3 major upgrades to windows phone and one more is on the way.
You may find out that you and not Microsoft is the real loser.

The next time you shop for a phone go by the features that matter most to you and your family, that will save you time and money. you may upgrade your phone tomorrow and still never be able to use the new features because the hardware is not compactible.

Just wondering. What Android phones did you buy? It's seems odd, bordering on "I'm lying", that you'd mention what WP you almost bought but left out what Android phone is now your favorite little toy for the whole family.

As for the Lumia 900, holy crap you missed out on a good deal. $.01 over at Amazon Wireless. Dang, bro, that's a steal. And FYI you're either ignorant or lying and here's why. Show me a single WP that's out today that would support the big hitters of WP8? Specifically, how many have extra cores lying around? How many have SD slots? How many have NFC chips? How many have GPU's that can support 720p screen resolution?

Bro, you've been played. Sure there will be app compatibility issues for about six months as porting accelerates. But think of all those cool WP7.x apps you could have from the 100K to choose from.

Enjoy your Android phones, you jack wad troll!

“Anyone can sign you out or change user accounts to log in as Administrator and have complete access to the Windows system.”…

A bit of an exaggeration given the administrator account is disabled by default. It has no password but it can’t be used until the user has gone around the houses to enable it.

Most of the user management elements that Microsoft has exposed in Windows 8 are all that most users will ever need. Those that want more control are better off opening the management console (mmc) and adding in the “local users and groups” snap-in (then save a custom console if you need it regularly).

“There are a few ways to get to the Desktop mode Control Panel, but the easiest is to swipe from the right side of the Metro display to bring up the Charms, and tap the Search charm at the top. Just search for “Control Panel”, and it will appear as the top choice in the results.”

Even quicker is to just hit the Windows key on the keyboard and type ‘cont’ and press Enter.

Why is Microsoft dumbing down the interface to such a ridulous level? What the %^$# is a Charm bar . . . I think I'd rather have a control panel instead!

Taking a winning product and making a real loser out of it!

This must be Windows 8 Pro the dumber Windows 8 does not have access to the old lusrmgr.msc .... you have to use user accounts tool in control panel. It must be part of the machine not being able to join a domain but it sure is a pain. Microsoft if your are listening I hate the Windows 8 user administration feature. It takes so long to setup accounts...grrr

Microsoft say you shouldn't run your machine with Administrative rights but dump your account in as administrator and point you at after market security software to protect you.
