$50 more with twice the onboard storage? Why even bother with the 199? And catch up with apple? Really? 1280 packed into 7 inches won't do that?

Time will tell.

I was originally interested in the $199 8GB version, but if it’s only available from Google store, you’ll be paying tax and shipping, which will probably bring it up to the $230s range, where as you can find the $249 16GB version from other online vendors with free shipping and no sales tax Seeing it this way, it makes sense just to prop down the extra $20 or so bucks for the 16GB.

It’s like a bait and switch; show the $199 price to get you in, but then only sell it through a medium that charges extra for shipping. So you never actually get it for $199.

You do get $25 to use in the Play store and that awful Transformer movie if you get it from the Play store. Not sure if you get these things if you get it from Staples.

It depends on where you are though. For me, yes, that's true. For others, both might (or might not) be tax free.
