The problem just started a week or so ago and while I must have done something, I don't know what?

There is full internet access, full bars at the bottom and Windows tells me I have internet access. But... when I "log on" no matter what the assigned "Home Page" IE 9 page comes up blank, spins & spins, but the page never comes up. I can ONLY have access to the "net" by installing everytime and using my VPN and then it logs onto any site and works perfectly! So, I can get to a "home page" on the net through Germany, England, Canada etc. but not locally!

Now... the kicker!! It does NOT do it from my neighbor's house or my friend's! I just wish his wife was prettier and I'd spend all my time surfing the net from there but unfortunately I cannot.

I am using a new Toshiba Laptop with Windows 7 Pro, IE 9 and have a Lynskys WRT310N router. I have pinged "google" and all is fine! I have reset everything, I have Performed a "Clean Boot" and nixed all the start-up etc. "HONK!!! - Nothing changes" I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem.

I need to have internet access without using the VPN so my i-pad can log on to the local server and I want to log onto the local server too. It's a pain in my Cyber butt to use the VPN from other countries to access the net all the time.

Thanks in advance for you help!! You guys are GREAT!
Jim

Hi and welcome to the forums. If you have already, try resetting the router and see if that helps.

What does your router show the DNS server as? (usually, you get to that from http://192.168.1.1)

Hey jam !

Welcome to PCWorld Community!

Love the tid bit about the neighbor's wife LOL!

Just a few thoughts.

OK, I don't know much about routers but, have you tried to connect with a CAT5
wire (direct connection) ?

Do you have a different browser that you can use?

Can you borrow a router from a friend or maybe bring your router to friend's house
and see what happens?

you can't just borrow somebody elses router for your line or take yours to someone elses place, because of the ISP username/password settings they contain for IT'S ASSIGNED LINE, you CAN take your computer to another place and connect from there (or if using Wi-Fi you could look for an available unsecured signal or if a friendly neighbor would give you their wifi password? :D ).
