Hello,

I am looking for a photo album organizer,
I have around 40K photos from some trips

I want to organize them in:
1. due to a trip (s.e Japan, Brazil...)
2. due to categories (s.e food, animals...)
A picture can be in both places

The goal is to upload it to my site.

I also would like to reduce the size of the pictures, but if someone is asking 4 a certain pic, he can download it with full size

Can someone advice?
Thank you

Tal

Hi, Tal.

I use Windows Live Photo Gallery, which is a free Microsoft program. It's nowhere near as good a program as it used to be (why does Microsoft do that?), but it's still pretty good.

The real trick is to use tags, which are part of the .jpg file format's metadata. For instance, if you give a photo the tags Japan and Bears, it will come up in a search for Japan, a search for Bears, and a search for Japan + Bears. Since tags are part of the files' metadata, they travel with the picture as you move from one PC to another and even one program to another. You can do that tag search not only in WLPG, but also Windows Explorer, Picassa, and any other photo organizer that uses metadata.

But what makes WLPG special is that you can do hierarchical tags. You can tag a photo as Places/Japan, and get tags inside tags the way you get folders inside folders.

I'm happy with Picasa (I used to use live photo gallery), and it also lets you tag things.

I was using the 2011 version for a while and didn't have any problems with it, but found that Picasa just seems to work better in general.

Thank you all,

What about the huge disk space, around 25GB...
How can I store it in my site?

I've seen in another site, that every picture is just 5-10KB, but when you download it, you get the full size 3.3MB

Thank you

It will depend on how your site is setup. Are you using your own website? Or do you have an account on some picture based (or other) website?

Many websites that display pictures will use a smaller size version (sometimes referred to as a "thumbnail") of the picture for display on the webpage that shows large number of pictures and then has a "full size" picture available for when you down load them. This way when you go to the "photo library" page that displays a bunch of photos, you don't have to wait some LOOOONG time for all those images to download and display in your browser.

How can I do it? Where the "full size" is stored?

Look at:
http://www.morguefil.../display/577901

If you rightclick & save the image size is 127KB,
But when you download it (At the bottom left of the picture),the image size is 4906KB

If it is your own website that you then need to "program" yourself, then it is way outside my knowledge. Depending on how your site is set up, you might be able to find some "premade" solutions, but you would likely still have to so some work to install it and set it up.

This might be a slightly different approach, however I like to use Dropbox as the main repository of my images. This little app Photo Box Camera Manager allows me to capture and upload pictures right to the desired folder on Dropbox. Hope this helps. Regards
