So, it's only the internal screen that's problematic, right? Have you tried tightening the ribbon cable for it? (BE CAREFUL - you can break those fairly easily!) I don't think the GPU is at fault here, since external monitors work.

Is the screen entirely a solid white? (I'm wondering if there was any chance that you damaged it when you fixed the hinges, which wouldn't result in that problem.)

yes the screen is completely white and doesnt change... i had tried a previous screen that i had originally replaced cause it was cracked and had ink blotches on the screen but it still worked and u could still see the screen other then where the cracked spot was.. but that screen also is just white now also.
i might have to add that while i had the laptop apart i did use compressed air to clean out the dust from the fan and all.. but i was very careful when doing so, so i dont think that caused an issue but idk.

I think you were on the right track with the cable. Could have come loose when he was replacing the hinge.

Interesting - I'm reading that the GPU can fail in such a way that it causes this. After thinking about it some more, I'm thinking that it's likely not the connector being loose, since you had to reconnect it when putting in the other display. It sounds like the oven trick might work here. (That is a last resort though.)

Is the machine still under warranty? (Looking at the date of reviews on it, it looks like you might.)

it worked just fine until i had it apart to fix the hinge tho.. like i was on the laptop before taking it apart when it worked fine then i got off it so i could fix the hinge... could the GPU go bad just like that?

warranty i am unsure about since i purchased this laptop from a friend recently so idk if there is warranty but is there a way to find out if i have warranty on it?

If it works on an external Monitor, then the GPU is fine. I havce an HP here and the screen is black. I know the GPU is gone in that ( same results on an external monitor ) and had to get a new motherboard.

That's what's confusing me here - unless you damaged the port that the monitor's ribbon cable connects to when fixing the hinge or something, I don't see how this could happen.

You could try the inverter.

inverter being where exactly?

It's usually under the bezel and below the screen. It's inline from the MB video output to the screen.

yes it is under the screen but the ribbons connecting itg to the screen appear to be permanently attached to the screen and the inverter which is held onto the screen with 2 screws

DO NOT use the oven trick on this machine. That machine uses an Intel chipset, and Intel video card. As such, you are NOT dealing with heat related substrate malfunction.

Nvidia had a short run of laptops (and video cards) that had a weak bit of silicone. Under the right circumstances, the silicone could heat up enough to be softened and allow the chips to slide a very small amount. The oven trick is a last ditch effort to fix those problems. Intel has NOTHING that suffers the same problem OR resolution. You are more likely to damage the machine further than fix it.

If an external display works, then you are looking at one of a very few possibilities. The cable may be bad/not connecting well. Take it back out and clean the contacts with alcohol. 99% pure. Check the inverter for signs of damage (hopefully if the inverter is bad, it went out with style). Lastly, the possibility of the display electronics going bad is always there. As your display is showing completely white - I suspect your inverter is fine. As you wouldn't have a back-light without it. Start with the cable.
