Should be called Windows M8 ... People will say Mate, as in the OS will be friendly with any device.

I think they have to go with Windows RT mode as much as I hate it. If they are calling the ARM mode "RT", it would not add any more confusion, however, it does sound bland. Essentially, it's a safe bet to just stick with RT-mode.

"Apps as opposed to applications"???? It is semantic and your sentence makes no sense. Do you mean "apps as opposed to programs"? (Still semantic, but closely resembles how we refer to software on mobile versus software on a desktop)

Microsoft seems a bit unfocused and dropping Metro is emblematic. The stated intent was in line with their long standing attitude that the mobile experience should be a replica of the desktop experience. That couldn't be more wrong and it appears Microsoft is finally getting the message, albeit very late in the current production cycle.

I haven't seen Metro but I understand it mirrors the new tile interface on Windows handsets. Not impressed with Windows 7.5 so I too was underwhelmed with Metro - er, Microsoft 8 Style UI.

Screw Metro. (Or whatever the hell you want to call it.)

Until Microsoft realizes how stupid they've been about Windows 8's interface - all the while ignoring the internet at large as they rail against it...

I'll be sticking with Windows 7 and Windows 8 can go to hell.

Metro is one of the worst ideas that Microsoft has ever had.

Give me [Start] or give Microsoft death!

Just wait a couple of years and call it obsolete

Microsoft is the king of confusion. I'm sure windows 8 will come in at least eight different versions, each one containing these two interface modes, of which one doesn't even have a name anymore. LOL

I was thinking "Mosaic" (because mosaics are made of tiles), but I like WinTouch as well.

There might be a trademark issue with the old Mosaic browser though.

How about "Windows Slabs", or "Windows Blockety-Blocks". I don't think these names are taken yet. ;-)

How about "The New Windows"? Live tiles never thrilled me either. I always thought they should be referred to as, wait for it, Windows. Doesn't the description of "little Windows into your apps" sound better and more relevant than "live tiles"?

"The New" is used universally to introduce new model changes in products and services in virtually every industry from automotive to fast food (The New Domino's Pizza, which is WAY better). Ask Apple. ;o)

Mate has already been taken by the fork Of the Gnome GUI for Linux.Try S-HIT since that what Windows 8 on a desktop PC operates like anyway. If this is the best Micro$oft can do,screw it.I'll go to Linux.

Won't happen there is already a UI called "Mate" for Linux users. That would be yet another naming conflict.

Hey, wasn't "Metro" Microsoft's codename for XPS back in the day?
