Hello, I had this issue all of a sudden, I was playing Resident Evil 5 in the morning with good speed and everything, then later that day once I started playing (exactly the part where zombies appears) it lacks so I went to the in-game benchmarks (which runs gameplay and cutscenes) and man, it was about 13-27 fps instead of the usual 40-60 fps on the same settings. The strange thing about it is: it doesn't occur in any other games, just this one only so I'm not expecting any viruses/malwares to be the cause.
I tried almost anything I can think of and it's really frustrating. My apologies if I miss out any details or informations. Appreciate any help you can provide.

Hey Hoop !

Do you always play this on the Aspire ? and do you get good FPS in the part you were stating?

I went to Can you run It to evaluate my Asus and apparently, I don't have the power to run this
on the Recommended requirements. It will ask for a CPU of at least 3Ghz.

I don't play this game (hate Zombies) but, did you have anything else running in the background ?
Do you play this on High settings? maybe try a lower setting.

Wow thanks a lot for the fast reply! Yes I've been playing it on this laptop (and only) since months, and I usually don't face any problems at all, it all happened two days ago.
I play it at High settings all the time and get almost full speed and had never changed the settings, although I tried to lower everything and and the result wasn't great still around 17-30 fps.
I made sure to close everything before running the game, I thought at first that it was caused by something malicious but all other games runs just fine, so I'm not really sure what may have caused it.

Hey Hoop !

What did you download or install two days ago ?

Were Windows updates installed or did you update the GPU card's driver?

Just to be on the safe side, run a quick scan of MBAM. (update before the scan)

IF you have a Restore Point available from when your PC could run this game
properly, try to revert back to that point in time. You will lose programs installed
during that period though.

Hi Flashorn, although I'm certainly sure that nothing had changed in the laptop (since I'm the only one using it) while wasn't on it that day, I toke the step and did the system restore, the restore point I've chosen was dated 29/07/12 and was created by the system upon windows update, which did not solve the problem.
I ran the full MBAM scan and all is clean (of course updated before the scan, used to forums rules :) ).
I really cant understand it, it's very simple I left the laptop right after playing in the morning, and returned to it at night on the same day, I'm even connected to the internet via dial up, so it's not possible that something auto-updated, I went as far as uninstalling many apps, and other games are even running faster after all the clean up I did. Am I missing something?

Hey Hoop!

I don't know what else to ask you to try Hoop.

No malware , restore didn't work , no new programs .
This is the latest driver for your GPU :

http://www.nvidia.co...hql-driver.html

Take a look in the Device Manager and verify that this is the driver installed.

It's not over heating is it ?

This is an .exe for the temp : techPowerUp! DE-1

Unpack with WinRar and right click Real Temp to Run as Administrator

Posted Image

Leave everything else in that folder.

There are a few other programs that I haven't had the time to test yet but, this one works great.

Just exit the program when done.

Tell us what you get (maybe a screen shot)

Let the program run until you get to the slow down of the frame rates.

I think the driver in here isn't the latest (about 9 months old as stated in version info), so now I'm downloading it, I did the the heating test and got a screenshot.
If it wasn't my fav game I wouldn't be so annoyed by it. I really, really, do appreciate your time and effort for helping me out in this, and you can see, I don't know what to do.
Edit:
I think I've installed the driver about a month ago and forgot about it, can't even remember if it failed or succeeded, anyways the date mentioned in the driver version on my system may not be accurate after all and I know why.

Hey Hoop!

Did the driver not install ??

OK, in Real Temp, click on the settings button and check mark "Log Files and always on top"
plus , minimize on close. Check mark all four cores. Click on Apply and OK.
You should get a log file in the same folder as real temp. Post the results after you have played
the game where th slow down occurs. I don't think it's heating but, it won't hurt to try.
Other than this, maybe a reinstall of the game.

I just can't see anything else I can suggest. maybe others could help more. Sorry.

Hey Hoop !

Sorry I couldn't be of anymore help.
If a re-install of the game didn't do the trick then, I am just lost for ideas.
As your report on heat shows, your notebook is hardly breaking a sweat.

One question, did the newer driver for your GPU Not install?
or did you manage to install it.

One thing comes to mind; do you have Turbo Boost on that CPU?
If you do, try using it. I see that at one point the CPU racked up a score
of 2733.Mhz. Maybe the Turbo Boost could be of some use.

Talk to you soon.

Hi and sorry for my delayed response again, as for the driver it'll not install as it shows that I've got the latest version already (shown in the last attachment).
As I know, both i7 & i5 processors are Turbo Boost ready, but functions upon the task demand, so there's nothing I can do for that part.
There's something I'd like to add if you don't mind: I have and play the game (Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City) which is pretty graphical detailed and demands much more CPU power, and I always choose to run it with Nvidia manually (now auto), because I also have an integrated graphic card (Intel HD Graphics Family). If the Intel was chosen to run the game it'll lag so I always depend on Nvidia, however RE5 do not allow me to do this, because upon clicking the game shortcut icon (C:\Program Files (x86)\CAPCOM\RESIDENT EVIL 5\Launcher) it'll open a window to let me choose to run with DirectX 9 or 10.
And the files
C:\Program Files (x86)\CAPCOM\RESIDENT EVIL 5\REDX9
C:\Program Files (x86)\CAPCOM\RESIDENT EVIL 5\REDX10
are not executable.
So I can't adjust anything. I'm not saying that it's the cause of the problem I'm facing, because it was running fine since I first installed it since 3 months without any lagging or any re-adjusting from my part, but it may have been solved by the method mentioned if it was possible.
Hope that you understand what I'm having because it's kinda hard to explain, I included some screenshots too, I know I wasn't explaining very well :P
Sorry for the long post.

Hey Hoop !

OK, can you go to the Device Manager in Control Panel and expand the Video Adapters entry.
What do you see? are there any yellow triangles?
While your there, check to see if there are any yellow triangles on any of the entries.

Hoop, could you clear up this part of your reply pls.

Are you saying that you don't have turbo boost on that notebook? or that you can't turn it on?

I verified the games specs and this game is DirectX 9oc and not 10.

It sounds like the nVidia Graphics is switching back to the Intel Graphics 3000 which is certainly not enough to run this game.
Can you not choose to run Only on the nVidia graphics?

Could you type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) in the Start menu search box. The program should come up as the first entry. Right Click to
run as Administrator. When the program comes up (it might take a few seconds) on the bottom left, check mark that box. Let the progress
bar do it's job and when it disappears, verify that you don't have any problems showing in there. Better yet, there should be an option to
save the report. Copy and paste that report here pls.

OK Hoop, that's all I have for now. I just can't see any other reason for the slow down other than the nVidia graphics switching back to the onboard
graphics in the middle of the game for some reason.

Hi FLASHORN, ok first of all I've got no bad yellow triangles on any of the devices (Device Manager) which is good news I guess :P.
As for the CPU i5 & i7, they both have Turbo Boost technology, but it'll only work if the system needs and asks for it and there's nothing that the user can do or control. My CPU is an i7 2.0 GHz (upto 2.9 GHz when Turbo Boosted) that's why you saw it score at about 2.7 GHz without any adjustments from my part.
My apologies for any bad/miss clarifying.
The best thing that happened yesterday was noticing that the game was actually running on the integrated GPU, which I saw in the in-game benchmark, which I immediately suspected if it was always been like that but totally changed my mind after seeing this article http://www.legitrevi...rticle/1914/12/ as it shows that the game runs slow on the integrated GPU (about my score) even with faster CPUs.
The article shows also that the game runs perfectly with DirectX 10 (as I've tried in the past to run it with DirectX 9 which is not really good compared to 10).

You are totally right! :D
So how do I revert back into using Nvidia GPU as before? As I'm totally clueless, the choice to run it in the Nvidia control panel was grayed out and can't be forced too, well at least we know now where had the slowdown came from.
Oh almost forgot the report (although I don't think it's needed now), and thank you very much.

Hey Hoop !

OK, have you tried to look at the Power Options " You might want to set them for Performance.

Posted Image

I have a utility on this notebook from Asus that controls (I control) those power options.
I can switch on or off the Turbo mode and also have a Twin Turbo mode which overclocks my i7 to almost 3Ghz.
from 1.6 Ghz.

Would you have something similar for your Acer?

Do you know if Acer has a forum? They maybe able to clear this up for you.

BTW, your Realtek HD Audio driver is out of date. Try to update from here :

http://www.realtek.c...ds/Default.aspx

The middle link is the one you want. I have the same.
You'll have to accept the license by checkmarking the box on the left.
Choose the 64bit .exe for Vista , 7 , 8.

I find it odd that the on board video card would be (it seems) the default video driver.
There has to be some kind of setting to change that order.

Hey Hoop, I you haven't already, check to see if there any game patches and if so, get them. I'm thinking if it has been perfoming well, then suddenly acts up, then it may be a game issue. Not unheard of.

Hi Flashorn, the problem has resolved!
Remember when I told you before about the Nvidia telling me that there's no need to install because I already had the newest version in here and preventing me from reinstalling the driver? Well, after a good break I got back to the issue and searched again on the internet, I found people saying things about renaming the "re5dx10" into something else which makes Nvidia control panel "see" it, which to my opinion is illogical (well it works but when the "Launcher" searches for the file it'll never find it!).
After about five minute of thinking< LOL , I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver completely from Device Manager and restarted, then install the driver (the one you gave me) and although it shows nothing different than before as for version no. or appearance, my game worked again and benchmarked about 56 fps! :D
I really can't figure out what might had happened to the old driver (it was installed in less than a month and was the same version) and affected only this game, but I'm really happy that it worked as before again!

OK, have you tried to look at the Power Options " You might want to set them for Performance.

Yup, mine is always set on "Performance" because I'm setting near the plug! XD

Well, that sounds fantastic as I can't control it from here, ACER!!!

Really? I'll update it then.

I thought the same too, but I don't know, the option to change the default GPU for the monitor seems grayed out everywhere, I don't think it's changeable in this laptop, maybe for power saving?
Thank you very much for clearing a lot of things and helping me on this issue, I want you to know that really appreciate what you did, especially when there're times that I just wanted to let it be, but you kept me trying.

Hey Hoop !

I'm Really glad that you got it back to where it's suppose to be.

Yeah, I'm kind of stubborn that way, I just keep chipping away at the problem until I or
with the help of someone more knowledgeable find a satisfactory resolution to whatever
is hurting my pride LOL!

Here is a site (notebookReview) that I really like to visit once in a while. They have
specific forums for almost all notebook manufacturers plus very competent Geeks.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/

I learned allot when I got my Asus. They also have a thread where they explain all of the
software Asus has installed and what is really needed and what can be discarded (uninstalled)
That thread alone dropped my processes by about 10. Saved allot of resources
and notebook is still, after two years of Grueling game play, very fast.

If you can't find a thread for your specific model then, Start one and ask. They might
even know of a utility to help with those graphic cards.(change the options from one to the other)

So, enjoy killing all those Zombies. (hate Zombies)

BTW, from the location under your Avatar, it says "I think I saw you last week"
Well, I don't think so because, from one of the reports you submitted. I think I
saw Arabic writing. Am I right ??

Almost forgot (old age , I guess), take a look in the BIOS and see if you can't have the
nVidia start as the main graphics driver. BIOS on mine is F2 but will be different for yours
I guess.

Aren't we all technology explorers act that way? XD

I dropped a visit, seems good but I need to recharge this account before accessing the internet again (prepaid internet package, dial up via cellphone <_< ) I think I'll have less than 20mb left after logging out, well, at least the 3G finally worked will after being MANUALLY fixed.

Yup you got it right! Nice guess, at first I though I'd remove it but then decided to leave it as it is
That phrase was my stalking slogan, don't stalk me back! LOL :D

It's the same F2 button, but can't edit it though, except for the booting order and such (which device should be booted first).
I think I'll give your suggested site another visit, as I think I'll have to look into the issue at some point anyways.
