What Speakers Are The Best $200 Can Buy?

I really want some speakers because my laptop speakers and monitor speakers are junk. I have a $200 dollar budget. The only requirements are an audio in port so I can connect it to my laptop/iphone etc. Portability/battery are a plus but I don't want to sacrifice sound quality too much. I love music but I don't understand audiophile lingo at all and don't want to waste my money on a gimmick. I listen to everything besides modern pop. So dubstep, electro swing, weird indie music, classic rock, hippie movement stuff (go Jefferson Airplane!), 80s hits, 90s rock I love it all and want speakers that can handle all that. Thanks so much for your time! :]

Update:
I found these two speaker sets:
http://www.pioneerel...kers/SP-FS51-LR
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16836852001

They both seem nice. From reviews it seems the Pioneer speakers are better but I don't understand exactly what floorstanding speakers are. Would I need to buy an amp to make them work?

Hey EvanMeichtry !

Welcome to PCWorld Community

Floor standing speakers are just that, tall and stands on the floor. Most floor standing speakers are usually for listening to either music or
incorporated in a 5.1 up to a 8.1 configuration with a audio/visual amplifier. What we call surround sound system.

The Pioneer you have chosen would be for music but, could also be adapted to a 5.1 set up meaning, you'd have to get two smaller surround
speakers and a sub-woofer (or bass speaker) for the deeper musical notes and lower mid-range sounds coming from classical music instruments.

I have listened to many computer speakers over the years and for the money, I would still peg my bets on these :

http://www.amazon.co...r/dp/B000062VUO

They are the Klipsch Pro-Media speakers. To tell you the truth, I have owned these for the last three years and they still give me as much pleasure
now as they did when I first got them. Great highs and mids plus incredible bass if no one complains

I would definitely recommend you take a listen and compare to either Bose or Logitech's . They will also be much cheaper but, do not compromise
on sound quality.

The key point that you kind of dance around, but never really directly say is the the Pioneer speakers would need a separate amplifier (which means additional cost). In other words, they are not meant to be "just" hooked up to a computer...you would need more than just the speakers.

It was not meant to be critical but to be more explicit. As I said, from my perspective you did kind of say it in a round about way without explicitly saying it, which could have been missed by the original poster.

I know I do the same time sometimes. I have a habit of getting long winded and sometimes go off on tangents.
