I can't help but wonder why the stretch for the number 10 when there were really only two?
1. Use wireless/wi-fi/some other data plan.
2. Use on-board stuff.
I can simplify this:
Use wireless only. Don't buy "apps" (Can you inflate your TCO any more? Enough with spending the damn money on crap. Do it yourself!). Keep your content on your home computer and load up before you leave.
All these histrionics for the simple act of moving files from one device to another and connecting the tablet like a laptop.
Alternatively, you can eliminate one step by buying a laptop and just take it with you, connecting the way you used to way, way back in 2007. All the rest of the "advice" in this article suddenly becomes moot. Your life is simplified instead of complicated. You're more productive and feel much better about yourself and your fiscal sense.
Problem solved.

Number 10. you can use vontage mobile to make free calls in the us. outside the us is pretty cheap. You can use a number that you already have like your google voice number.

Never got the point of having a 4g (or 3g) phone AND Tab when you can tether.

I have a Verizon Droid Bionic and a Google Nexus 7 tablet (the new one). Verizon's my carrier. I turn on Bluetooth devices and turn on 3G/4G data on the phone.

For Verizon you do not have to pay the $20.00 anymore for making your smartphone a hot spot. Please do some research.

Hi Eugene,
Thanks for your note. If you read the section on tethering, you will notice that I mention Verizon will not charge you for tethering. That said, this is not entirely true -- if you happen to have a grandfathered-in unlimited data plan on Verizon, you will still be charged $20/month for tethering -- even after the change takes effect. Please see my article on the subject: http://www.pcworld.c...id_phones.html. That said, there is also no word on whether Verizon will allow "free" tethering on iPhones.
Thanks,
Sarah
