Having both a laptop and a first generation android phon, a G1 got me thinking about this:
Wanting to save room on a laptops hard drive why would not an app work just as well?
So pleasae lt me and perhpas others in on the answer:
Can or could a normal app meant for a smartphone be completely useful on a laptop?
Or would the app have to be reconfigured to work on th laptop all together?
THis may sound like a dumb question but if one wants to save space on their laptop it does seem to make since right?

The OSes are completely different, so an Android app will not work on on a PC. If you want to save space on your PC, I suppose you can use web apps, as well as not install components of Microsoft Office that you don't use. (it takes up a GB or two of space)
Also, you might want to disable hibernate (if you never use it, you'll save an amount of space equal to the RAM you have this way), shrink the pagefile (if you have plenty of RAM - I would set the default low, but the maximum higher, just in case), clear out temporary files, and shrink the space for system restore points.

The apps run on different processors and different OS's. You have the same apps and android and apple but they have to be specifically written for those OS's and aren't interchangeable. It's like the Apple version of MS Ofiice and the Windows version.
That will change as we move more into cloud computing where the type of browser will affect compatibility more then OS or processor.
