FYI - The Galaxy S III for Verizon also has NFC and it isn't disabled from what I can tell.

no, it isn't but nice a phone as it is, the battery is awful. My Thunderbolt wouldn't last half a day. I had two extra batteries and the extended and needed all of them if I was out from morning till midnight. Now I have the Maxx and it may not be the newest but I use it ALL DAY and NIGHT and don't run out if I'm out from 6:00am to well past 12 or 1 am! So, I'll take the okay camera, more than good enough for me, and the speed, also more than enough as a trade for not having to carry batteries and having charging cords everywhere I go. Just my $.02 ymmv

Did you use LTE to stream HD videos, while using GPS, with full brightness on with the Thunderbolt or something? I had a TB for over a year and after the first update for it after just a couple months (not the Gingerbread update) I got pretty solid battery life with the standard battery. A slightly extended (1750mAh, not the 3300mAh that you can get) made it through an 8hr day with about 2.5hrs of on-screen time, 30mins of music, 15mins of calls, never turned 3G off, and brightness was almost always at 60%...which is about an average days use for most people I'd say, maybe a little more screen time actually.
There is no way ANYONE would need 2 extra batteries and the extended battery (especially if it's the 3300mAh one)...which I'm assuming you're counting as one of the 3 total, not saying the original + 3 others (one being the extended). Either way, 3 or 4 batteries should last you at least 2 days of moderate-high use with a TB considering that would be a lot more battery than the Razr Maxx has (if it was simply 3 standard batteries it would be 1.5x, if you had an extended it'd be nearly double if not more).
