I am looking for a good camera that has a very low shutter lag (preferably none!), good image quality, and the ability to take good pictures in both light & dark settings. The camera would be used for action shots and would need to cost less than $1000. I currently own the Lumix DMC-FZ7 and it just does not seem to be fast enough for the type of shots I'm looking for.If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

OK, this is a little push on your price range, but a Canon 30D, would be perfect for what you're looking for! Nearly no sutter lag, a 5 shot per second burst rate, and unlike a point and shoot, it's very upgradable! Plus the prices for it have been falling alot! I'm pretty sure you can find one for $1100 or less if you look! And it has a "sports" mode that does it all for you!

You will basically want to get an SLR digital camera. Typical consumer point and shoot cameras will have too much shutter lag. A high end "point and shoot" (i.e. non-SLR) might get you there...in otherwords, one of the point and shoot styles that a borderline SLR cameras other than you cannot change the lense. The light issues will be your problem potentially. It kind of depends on what you mean when you say "both light & dark settings". How dark are you talking about? If you are talking about a dark auditorium (i.e. VERY dark) then an SLR will not work that well...unless you drop the shutter speed manually and use a tripod. There are some point and shoot digital cameras that do FANTASIC in a similar situation. Our first Olympus (many years ago) did GREAT pictures at night with very little light. It could take great pictures of the moon or sitting around a fire. Was rather remarkable. Haven't found a camera that works as well in the dark as that.
