example...MOTOROLA SB5101U (i have it)
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16825122011
vs
MOTOROLA SBG6580
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16825122014

25 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up BOTH

Wich one will work better and why?... maybe is obvious that the one with better specs is the best or maybe not, networking sometimes is confusing.

Linksys DPC 3008 320Mb/sec down by 120Mb/sec up. I wouldn't use Moto crap unless it was forced on me.

In theory, the second one would be better as it supports DOCSIS 3.0.

However, if the limitation is your cable connection itself (i.e. does not support DOCSIS 3.0 yet or even if it does, you pay for a "slower" cable connection), then it may not matter.

I would suggest talking with your cable provider. You will want to do that anyway to check with them as to what cable modems they support (i.e. that they have tested with their system and will help you with if you have connection problems...but not that they will replace, of course).

You always seem to be the only guy around here who has these kinds of problems. My Motorola SB6121 has been working just fine for me. (I've only had it for a year or so though, and it does get rather warm.)

You obviously don't work on Motorola equipment on an enterprise level. One of us does. It doesn't matter where, Moto gear is crap.

Keep in mind that most people use equipment on a consumer level, not an enterprise level. For that, Motorola gear works just fine.

Enterprise hardware should be built to specs far beyond that of consumer gear. If Moto cannot manage Enterprise grade hardware, how on earth do you think they can manage solid consumer gear? Hint, they can't. Moto gear is the worst stuff you can buy short of that unnamed garbage. I recommended the Linksys modem here because it is quicker, more up to date, and better made. Get over it.

edit: If you really need proof, go to newegg already and look at the reviews for that moto junk that was posted in the OP's first post. With 157 reviews, 1/2 are NEGATIVE. This holds true for multiple models from Moto... go figure.

Combo units generally aren't great... and what about the second one? 4/5 seems fine to me. Or the SB6121 - also 4/5.

Better than half the models on Newegg were rated 50% [censored], and you want to bring up the only TWO that didn't. Do you really want to go there? Again, to the OP, buy a quality modem, it is worth it.
