if your comfortable on the computer you can use Skype, it won't cost you anything if she is also on a computer connected to the internet. Otherwise they have low rates on international calling. There rates to Germany are as follows:[quote:d3a9a1ea15]Germany $ 0.021 $ 0.024Germany - Mobile (Others) $ 0.246 $ 0.283Germany - Mobile Tmobil $ 0.246 $ 0.283Germany - Mobile Vodafone $ 0.246 $ 0.283Germany - Toll Free $ 0.000 $ 0.000[/quote:d3a9a1ea15]one price is incl vatg and the other excluding, I have no idea what vat is so its something to look into.http://www.skype.com/products/skypeout/rates/all_rates.html

If you want a VOIP option that uses a regular phone, then consider Vonage. For $25 a month (plus taxes, etc), you get unlimited calls to anywhere in the US, Canada, and the some of the countries in Europe for free. Unfortunately, it appears that Germany is not one of them, but the rates are still not that bad (but not as good as Skype's apparently...and I believe that you can get WiFI phones that work with Skype).I believe that you can also get fairly good rates with cell phone services if you pay a monthly "international call" fee (usually something like $4 or $5 per month).Traditional land lines services also can give you decent rates at times. Call and ask your long distance provider.
