Login seems to be working now. Fyi, the pcworld.com/logon link in the forums (the mobile version anyway) gives a 404 - I had to sign in via pcworld's homepage.

Yes. Thanks for the tip! There should be a thread titled "log in tip" so people like myself can find it...instead of searching the entire troubleshooting section only to find the answer on page two of a thread called "Reduced Comments".

Been trying to post news for two hours now.

Same here.
I gave you a point Brian for bringing that to our attention.
Didn't even notice the login on the top right.

And even in w7 desktop, the 404 error occurs trying to login from the forums page.

Could anyone give an update when this all returns to how it was prior to the maintenance?

THX again Brian, glad to be back on.

The new PC World home page has a Forum link at the bottom that works. So does the Answer Line forum link in my bio at the end of every Answer Line post.

Thanks for that tip LiveB. After I signed in the forum header still shows me signed out, but obviously I can now post.

Hmm... I appear to be signed in from here (the forums haven't changed at all, aside from the login part) and the homepage. There's already a new post here. Finally, I'm not bored anymore! Posted Image The forum's login link also gives a 404 on the desktop version for me btw. Thanks for the upvotes! :)

I noticed that, on my phone, I was logged out today (I guess that's because they just applied all the changes). Not a big deal though.

Edit: Whoops... now I see it. Is this what you guys mean?
https://dl.dropbox.c...gin%20issue.png

Fyi, the register link also hits a 404.

Another edit, if bcappel is reading this: On article pages, the "Post your comments for .... here" post from the bot shows. Another thing is that the profile pic for the bot references http://forums.techhi...fault_large.png (404), not http://forums.pcworl...ault_large.png.

My guess is that they have not gotten to updating the forum pages to the new "format", which includes updating the links for logging in on the forums. I am sure they will get around to it as they work the "kinks" out of the new system.

Or you can just type in "forums.pcworld.com". :D Since I rarely read articles on the PCWorld website (I do read some by way of the "Daily Reader" app on an iPad even though that iPad is flawed), this is what I tend to always do.

Now, I don't like that the forums have been further relegated to obscurity. Many, many moons ago, there was link to the forums up on the main top "menu" on all PCWorld sites (Macworld still had that until this new change). They killed that and put the link to the forums in a "sub menu" so that it was not readily visible, but it was still at the top of the page. Now, the only place that I can find a link to the forums on any PCWorld page is at the bottom of the page, where likely no one EVER looks. If I were you, I would be worried about that. Traffic to the forums dropped dramatically in the last two or so years. While I have no proof that it is tied to the forums link disappearing from view into that "sub menu", I suspect that has played a major role. And I bet that traffic will drop even further now that the only place to find the forums link seems to be at the bottom of the page. Considering I don't participate nearly as much as I have in the past, I will live...but I still think it sucks.

We don't agree too often but, on this occasion, I wholeheartedly do.

If PCWorld doesn't want a forum anymore, they should just do away with it instead of relegating the most important part of this site to the back-burners.You want to help people with their problems and / or new tech then,
make it so that All visitors can easily find what they are looking for.

I think it's time to offer my knowledge and services elsewhere.

That's exactly what seriously hurt the forums over at pcmag (and why I left). At tomshardware, it's nice and obvious, at the top of the page.

A - Jumping From The Forum Thread To The Corresponding Article Needs 3 Clicks Now ( Instead Of The Usual 1 Click ) - And With That I Can Live With,

B - The Problem Is Jumping The Other Way Around ( No Problem For Those Who Can Configure GOOGLE, The Browser, And An Occasional Search Extension ).

For The Usual User, Clicking That Bottom Link Leads To The Forums Root Folder When You Want To Reach 3 Levels Below - Doable But Requires The User To Know The Hierarchy Of Folders Inside The Forums Page.

Besides That, Posts And Edits Sometimes Take As Long As 20 Minutes To Be Updated In The Article Page, Which Leads To More And More And More Multiple Posts Because Users Think Their Post Was Not Accepted And Keep On Trying.

I Hope Those Old Interchangeable Links Do Not Take Too Long To Resurface.

Interestingly, when I came to the forums on this computer (different from when I posted earlier), the main forum page showed me logged in as YOU. I can see your login ID in the "pull down" menu. I can see the list of all your "unread notifications" (you and coastie65 sure PM a lot :D ) as well as your "Watched Content" (the list of watched forums and topics with new posts). Now, don't worry, if I click on anything of yours (such as edit your profile or go to your personal messages, etc), I get an error message. So, it appears to ONLY be the main forum page that has this "bug" and I cannot really fully get into your account. This seems somewhat consistent as the Macworld main forum page does not work at all...it does not show ANYONE logged in when you go to it...even if you are logged in. So, there is definitely something "broken" with the main forum page after the update, although all the "sub" forum pages seem to work fine. I am going to PM Bill to make sure he is aware of this.

In that state, do you still appear to be posting as yourself? I also noticed that, when I sign in and go back to the main forum page, it shows me as not logged in. If I go to a subforum, it's fine (and then I can go back to the homepage and be signed in).

Edit: In the forums, I cannot change my email or password (404). And if I click my account name on the homepage (leads to http://www.pcworld.com/user/account2), I get this:

Is this smax or not? That 'tis the question! ;)

As I said, it ONLY happened on the main forums page. Once I went to any other forum page, I was shown logged in as myself. And I could not access any of Flashorn's content...i.e edit his profile, see his PMs, or post as him.

So, it appears as if ONLY the main forums page is messed up.

FWIW, after I logged in this time, the main forums page still showed me as not being logged in (this is what the Macworld main forum page has done consistently today after the website update). When I go to any other forum page (i.e. on this response page right now) I am shown as logged in.

I was logged out somehow today when I got back (log in expired?), I had to go to the PCW main page and do it from there and it was loading indefinitely, it sure looked fancy and all, but I have to say that I strongly dislike it, and as I said, it toke forever to load.

A bug here - the link for a lot of articles leads to techhive. (see this, for instance: http://forums.pcworl...orth-the-money/) I have to change techhive.com to pcworld.com in the link for it to work.

I like BI, am subscribed to it as well. Also computerworld. But like you, I'd rather be here in PC World. Now with the new design, I just don't go to the Home page anymore, since you can't find anything on it, now. Instead, I bookmarked this Forum page since the Home page for PC World no longer offers either a sign in or a 'Forum' link. And when I want to know the news, I click on 'news' here, and can sign in from that page.

I dread the idea of shopping for anything now in PC World. Too much white space. Designed for people with time on their hands. Here, it's 5:45 Central Time in the morning of Rosh HaShanah, but I don't consider surfing, working. Nor am I Jewish. But it means a quiet day. :)

Hey, Brian -- the link in your signature no longer works, either. Skydrive says it has a problem, something like that.

It's just the link in the forums that's broken - you can sign in from the homepage.

'Answer Line' Is Really Bleeding.

Since This Upgrade Endeavor Started The Number Of New Threads Is Minimal.

To Fix This, Does LS Need To Enter On Strike Or Something ?
