Lately I had a query about certain games hanging and lagging..one thing I noticed this happened exactly when I mistakenly moved my laptop in a jerky and shaky way! there is a utility in my pavilion g6 that temporarily parks the hard drive when it senses insecure movement of the laptop, this happens to avoid any accidental data loss... So I doubt this halted the hard drive access for the games and they hanged and lagged for a while when I moved my laptop...? Actually one inbuilt game had some permanant loss of data and now hangs and lags without any movement!

>>Can the hard drive parking utility cause this lagging and hanging if you move your laptop while playing some game?<<

Probably. But you should be able to disable the parking utility. At least I could on my Toshiba.

I can disable but its there for data loss protection so I feel a little insecure doing it...

Well... you know what to do then. Don't move the lappy when gaming.

You could probably clone your current drive to a SSD, and that would fix you right up!

I'm pretty sure it's the parking utility that's causing the issue.

I've never had that issue myself. Perhaps there's a way to change the sensitivity of it? I'd be a little wary of disabling it entirely, just in case you actually drop the machine.

I had the same utility on the Lenovo W520. Keep it running, it is a very good thing for the hard drive - especially if you tend to move that way. This is there to protect the drive. Will removing it stop that lag? Certainly, but at the expense of reduced drive life.

Hey waldojim i'm not disabling it, I understand its very useful and thats why its there...let the game lag....as livebriand said he never had that lag issue with the parking utility...I'd like to know if you ever had such issue with the parking utility?

It all depends on the game. On games like Skyrim and Rage, yes - because it decodes textures real time. Games like WoW, and Half-Life 2, no. Because they decompress everything ahead of time.

The best solution here is to go with a solid state drive.

Don't forget that an SSD will also make the system feel much faster in general Posted Image (when loading things - it won't help your framerate in games).
