I put a link to a JPG on a website in a word document, and when I click on it, IE opens it. (even though I set all the local file types to open in the windows photo viewer, and webpages to open in Chrome) So, I uninstalled IE, and now it tells me that 'No program is registered to open this file.' It opens all other links in my default browser (Chrome) without a problem. Has anyone seen this before?

My friend's elder brother who is a computer teacher as well says this kinda problem can be resolved by following these steps,
1. First uninstall every browser present on your system but don't touch IE(which I see you've done),
now if you've already uninstalled IE, just re-install it and continue with step 1.
....2. Now restart your system once you've uninstalled every browser except IE..
...3. After the restart, check that link, it should open it with IE, Now choose your favorite browser first and install it. when it asks you to assign it as the default browser click yes, then try opening the link again and it should open it with your favorite browser,
let me know what happens and I'll ask him again if it doesn't help but I'm sure it will because it helped me once...

Hmm... I need to check the defaults again on that machine (the laptop) - on my desktop, the link in the same document with the same OS and same version of Word opens in my default browser, Chrome, without a problem. I guess Word isn't quite as stupid as I thought.
