In theory it should just install and start being used as the default graphics suite. But if you wish to be sure, then uninstall the old, revert to the integrated suite, and then install the new video card.

Here's what I did - go into Device Manager, uninstall the old card (AND remove drivers), put in the new one, and install the drivers for it.

Also, what model of power supply do you have?

Can't remember off the top of my head will check when I go home for lunch do you think I will have a problem with psu? I figure that it would be OK due to running gts250 oc more minimum power requirements @450w I believe

So after I uninstall gpu and drivers I install new gpu should I hook up monitor to on board video or will monitor work with new card before I I install 550 drivers

Apparently the GTS250 is 145W. (The 550ti is 116W.)

That said, your PSU sounds a bit generic, and in any case I recommend replacing it with a better unit. (cheap ones can fry hardware, make things unstable, reduce the lifespan of hardware, they often can't provide the rated wattage, etc) Something like a Corsair CX430 is good.

As I said, uninstall the driver for the old one, removing the drivers completely when device manager asks, then physically put in the new card, and install the nvidia driver for it. You shouldn't have to use the integrated graphics.

There is no need to remove the drivers. With Nvidia cards, they all use the same Unified driver. Just remove the old one, put the new in its place, and enjoy the upgrade!

Yes you will. The real question though, is: how badly? What games are you looking to play with that machine?

I just looked up more on that PSU, and I definitely think you should replace it: http://www.hardwares...y-Review/1072/7

OK, fear 3 should run well enough on your hardware. When you step up the quality in Metro 2033, expect the CPU to bottleneck quickly. Expect the same in Battlefield 3. If/when you start hitting the ceiling on those games, it may be time to consider either trying to overclock (I think you may find your chip a bit too restrictive there), or moving up to a faster processor. Moving to an i3 will open up your games considerably, though an i5 would be ideal.

Brian is right though, if you get to that point where you are investing into serious hardware, a more stable PSU is in order.

If you're getting a 560 instead, you might want to get the CX500 to go with it (instead of the CX430) so you have some headroom.
