Autoruns is even better than CCleaner at managing the startup items, but it's not very newbie friendly.

I just put 8 on a Eee Pc 900HA. When I click on apps on the start page I get, "The screen resolution is too low for this app to run", and that includes the Internet Explorer tile. It is a shame the screen looks good at it max resolution of 1024x600 but just not good enough to get the functionality of the apps. OS except for the microsoft apps runs well.
In reading this article I was hoping for a fix for the above. I will be looking into bios and driver updates soon as I just got OS installed. Interested if anyone has info and will post if a find my fix. Asus has nothing and I do not expect anything for this aging hardware.

There is nothing you can do to fix this, except use an external monitor. Microsoft requires a 720P display for Metro applications.

Not quite - 1024x768, or 1366x768 for multitasking. 720p is 1280x720 by definition - not enough width.

The typical PC 720P display is 1366x768. That is why I just left it at that. There are less than a handful of examples that are not. There are also zero modern PC displays in a 4:3 ratio (apart from an iPad).

I was hopeful but I think I understand that the Eee PC screen physically only has 600 pixels/inch so impossible to run metro apps. There may or may not be a screen that I could replace to get the higher resolution but price would rule it out.
I did connect to a external monitor to the Eee PC, the graphics did allow higher resolution and metro apps worked. Pity using a external monitor to get metro apps defeats the portablility of using the computer.
