Well so far so good at least here. Just some rain at the moment and not too heavy ( light to moderate ). I guess all that is subject to change as things go on. Haven't checked my mailbox yet. I am subscribed to an Emergency Alert thing and when advisories / Warnings are issued for the area they come into my box. Probably ought t have it on my phone as well. They are saying that it is supposed to worsen through out the day, and it is possible that we may see snow tomorrow. Only in the 40's now. The coast is getting hammered with wind and high surf with flooding as well as a bit more rain. As Sandy strts to move towards the beach and she has started making the turn, she will start slowing down. She is supposed to merge with another system or two and will explode and that is when things will expand and cover a very large area. Guess we'll see how things shake out.

UPDATE: They issued an Emergency Alert at 9 am. We have gone from a wind advisory to a High Wind Warning effective as of Noon today and running through to 6 am tomorrow morning. I suspect it may get extended though. Right now things are pretty benigh and very little wind. Typical of a summer day and the rain is just a vey light rain, not anywhere near a soaking type rain. In other words, so far so good. :D

Hey coastie !

It's alright to have warnings come to your door but, I hope you got ready for the worst just in case??

Batten down the hatches and whatever could fly off and hit windows. Hope you got all of the yard things
fixed to something solid. Watch out for those tree branches that could be possible source for crashing
in or on the roof.

Got all of your emergency stuff like flashlights and extra batteries not to mention water and food for a
couple of days too. I guess you probably don't need a generator but, if you do have one, making sure
it can start and fuel on reserve.

Your Mom could be a little scared too, i know that when they get a bit older, they don't like to have their
daily routines messed up. Keeping them busy while the storm is going on I found is the best way to
comfort them.

Give us updates as it goes on through the day.

They are forecasting snow for here too but, only latter this week. We are not fairing better temperature
wise either and it's been raining for the last three or four days but, we haven't gotten any high winds yet.
Hope it stays that way.

Update as the day goes along please.

That thing will get to Central Pennsylvania, take a right turn and head north into Canada to your east, but it is big in size. There is a possibility of snow here tomorrow due to this thing. May be short of extra batteries though. Got some for the lanterns, but not enough I'm afraid. Raining, but not a torrential rain by any means, but not much in the way of winds though...........yet if ever. Mom, is fine and taking it in stride. We have no trees in the yard except a big Pine at the back of the yard and a ways from the house. We went through Isabel in '03 and Irene last August ( which wasn't as bad ). No generator. I can use the UPS to keep my Cell phone charged. Just need to unplug everything from them. If it is just a prolonged event of the conditions we have now, we'll be fine. It will later this week before the storm gets up there, depending on the speed. It is supposed to slow down, but so far hasn't shown any signs of doing that.

You know, I was initially tempted to post a one liner Coastie... something like: DON'T DIE COASTIE!
But I figured that might be taken as a bit rude. So lets try PLEASE DON'T DIE COASTIE!

Seriously though, Frankenstorm sounds like a monster (go figure), hope you weather well (yes, that darned pun was intended! I would have never found a use for it otherwise! :D ) I have family in Ohio waiting to see how things go as well.

Well, from what I've been seeing on your news channels, It's Not to be Taken Lightly so,
make sure enough of everything in case something goes wrong.

Yeah, that pun was very appropriate LOL!

I know this generally isn't how you use it, but it's probably a good idea to not plug the computer into the UPS so you can save all the power for your phone (which doesn't need much) and a small CFL lamp when you really need it. Btw, if you need a flashlight app for your phone (might be handy), use Search Light.

It has been pretty much just a wet storm and nothing close to damaging. We pretty much dodged a bullet with this thing and it was a non event here. Not so along the coast and to our north for sure. Also a Blizzard to our west. Hey Brian, Yeah, I unplug everything thing form the UPS to save the battery for charging my phone. Somthing will pull the battery down if things are left plugged in. I have a small florescient lamp on the desk, but unplug it as I have plenty of light coming through the big front window. Hey wj, I haven'theard much from Ohio, but they wwere expected to feel the effects in the form of a lot of snow the last I heard. Everybody seems focused on N.Y., N.J., Del., & Md., but they have taken the big hit.

I wouldn't worry about keeping a lamp plugged into it - those don't have any ghost draw.

in SE Michigan, we got a bit of snow (enough to leave bits of here and there on the ground, but gone quickly on the driveway).

It is has been gusting since yesterday afternoon and still currently is gusting.

Buddy does not really like the wind and keeps going in his kennel.

Hey coastie !

Glad to see that you and your region were spared the wrath of that storm.

I know, another false alarm but, it's always better to be safe than sorry. The
experts don't always get it right but, I would rather heed their warnings than
play the catch up game. Lives are at stake and I don't think anyone would
play Russian Roulette with their's.

Weather is and has always been very hard to predict even with all the tech
that's around today.

Good to know that all is well.

You know, about the chewing part - I used to have 2 rats, and they'd gnaw on quite a few things - except, of course, the chew sticks! Not to mention that they liked to hide in tissue boxes and under newspaper (I put that under the bedding because it made the cage easier to clean), but ignored the actual hiding places I gave them. (of course...)

In terms of infrastructure, at least you don't have flooding in the subways. I'd think severe storms can be just as bad as a big quake. (I live in California btw.)

I saw on Polish tv news what the hurricane Sandy has done i.a. to Jersey and man, you're having some hard time there. Interestingly, violent storms and even twisters now hit Poland more frequently than ever before. And the warning system in this country is in the making. Some may say it's the 21 Dec 2012 coming but mother nature is not quiet and that's the fact. To divert your thoughts to more pleasant things, like coffee, I've read Agnieszka Fleischer, a Polish barista from Poznań, makes Appleasure, or the world's best coffee drink of mocca, Polish apples and salty caramel.  And today and tomorrow Poles go to the graves of their relatives/friends to remember them. They clean their tombs, put flowers and lights on them. Halloween is becoming popular but that's with younger people and children and I don't celebrate it.
