I am having a lot of trouble finding things on Win8. It's fine on my tablet when I'm out and about, but when I'm on my desktop, I need more access and usage flexibility than the apps seem to give me. It seems very simple to me - I want mobile access when I am mobile, but all features when I'm not.
I was having an issue with shutting the system down, but I solved it by finding the Power Button in the All Apps menu and then pinning it to both Start and my Toolbar. It gives me the choice of off/restart/sleep/etc, so it's not one-touch, but I prefer that personally.
The problem I can't solve is how can I split the screen so that I can see two windows (for instance Word and Outlook) at the same time on one monitor? On the old desktop, I would simply tile my view and see what I needed to see. In this new app version, I see them advertise the feature in the commercials, but I cannot find it. Is this a touchscreen only feature?
Thanks if anyone can help!

Thanks, but I've already tried that. I even used the same two apps they use in the example. No line appears and I just keep switching between the two apps. [Win]+[.] doesn't work either. The Search/Help menu keeps directing "snap" to the Ease of Use Center but nothing there has anything to do with arrangement of the screen. I've only had the computer for two weeks; I don't know how to change any of the automatic settings so if I've managed to turn snap off, I can't begin to guess how. Anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks!

May I ask what tablet you're using? The snap function requires a resolution of at least 1024x768, and I think there are some on the market that run at 1024x600, similar to netbooks.

I think I may have found the source of your problem. The Office apps won't open in Metro, when you click on one in the Start menu you're always taken to the Desktop UI. The good news is that you can have as many Office apps open as you want in Desktop mode, and if you just want two you do it like Windows 7, grab the top menu bar and drag one to the right of the screen and drag the other to the left.
