"it won't be available to the smaller publishers who've helped turn the Xbox platform into a home for innovative indie games"... That was kind of a sad ending.

Microsoft is the least supportive of indie developers of any console maker. Steam is the best.

Some might feel left out, but there could be very strong business and/or technical reasons for MSFT not allowing it to be open. Next.

Just glad it's out there.

Agreed. As a college student studying game development, I first thought negative of MSFT for completely shutting out XNA on SmartGlass, perceiving it as giving indie devs the short end of the stick.

However, after further thought, I think it might be more of a technology thing at work here. It's very possible that independent devs will still be able to develop applications for Xbox SmartGlass, but won't be able to use the XNA Game Studio frameworks to do it. We'll just have to wait and see.

Remember that Nintendo doesnt even pay indies unless they sell enough.

Its too bad they're ignoring MCE. SmartGlass built into MCE could rival AirPlay on the AppleTV.
