I am new to this forum and have no idea how it works but something happened to me that makes me need some answers...and I do not know where to go.
I recently wanted to watch a webinar (sewing class). I am used to having to download citrix to watch so when I was asked to download, I clicked yes out of habit...DUH!...The next thing is something called ilivid downloaded. It added a ton of stuff on both my task bar and tool bar. It changed my search browsers and added a lot of programs to my computer. I changed my search browsers back, uninstalled the programs, deleted all the task and tool bar changes. Malware bytes, Norton and a PC Clean did not find anything. I went to the program files and found it lurking in there. It could not be deleted. I had to take my computer to a computer whiz who had to go into the registry to get rid of it. (It also reset my System Restore so I could not get rid of it by going back to the date and time, which would have been easy....this thing is as malicious as it gets!)
My question is, how could Anti-virus and malware programs allow something so malicious in without even a little warning...(like"if you download this it will go into your computer and change all your browsers and reset a lot of your programs!) How could something like this not be flagged! Obviously anti-virus is no such thing! Would sandboxing have helped? I feel as if I had the invasion of the body snatchers...feeling like a victim is no fun! This thing goes under various words like ilivid, searchnu, seachqu, datamngr, bando media, it even hides as "searchresults" in your browser. I was able to find it's complete invasion by knowing the time and date I "clicked"....everything in my computer with that date was deleted....and believe me it was everywhere!!!
Any suggestions on how to never have this happen again would be appreciated. The standard curtain everyone hides behind is "download" at your own risk....well downloading stuff is part of computer usage.
It would be best if any download would only be a one use type of thing and not be able to go very far into the computer without additional approval. A "download now" with no other explanation is criminal!
I am ranting a bit sorry!
