Hi guys i'm looking to buy a laptop for school. The only game i will be running on it will be starcraft 2 so it won't need to be too strong. I've got a budget of about $700 but i kinda hope to save some so i can upgrade my desktop. I'm a programming student and am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks in advanced guys.

Toshiba Satellite series is the best for quality and performance.
They do cost more than some others but they are not a POS.
See if you can get one of the Toshiba Satellite series for 700 bucks.

In my experience, Toshiba isn't great - they seem cheaply built, and I know a guy with an older Toshiba laptop that has some serious design flaws. Dell and Acer aren't great either.

That said, I recommend looking at Lenovo. I'll post specific models later.

I am most pleased with the Lenovo line. There are units that have a dozen options and twice as many configurations. Prices are comparable with any other mfgr. Laptops offer very few upgrades so thinking about future needs will allow you to anticipate newer advances that will work with your LT without upgrades.

I would go with Lenovo Y580 or Asus. Other option would be to go with Sager laptop.

Windows 8 is a useless OS that Microsoft released that has many flaws and bugs. DO NOT USE IT. Use Windows XP or Windows 7.

If you are looking for something more work oriented than game oriented, I would suggest the Lenovo 'T' series. You won't find a powerful video card in them, but they are extremely well made. If you are looking for something with a bit more gaming power, then the Y580.
