Here in Brazil, HP computers are very good until they need technical support.

A - W2000 Or,
B - XP Or,
C - VISTA.
The Machine Was Bundled With XP, But I Have The Option Of Going One Step Down Or Up.
Apparently Not Anymore For The Newer Machines - The Not 'Backwards Compatible' Policies Are Out In Force, Stronger And Stronger As The Time Goes By.
And These Companies Continue To Express Their 'Concerns' On Everything Ecology Related.
Hypocrites.

I agree with you all the way on that about windows 8. Unfortunately, there will be some lunk heads who are so stuck in the past and would probably try to throw Windows XP (never mind Windows 7) on an otherwise excellent machine.

Windows 8 will never be allowed on any device I own unless major changes come in the future.

I don't know. I haven't had many problems with HP products.

I have seen too many HP (family) PC's go wrong too soon. Some years ago I bought a $1400 Compaq laptop that lasted about 15 months.
We have a HP desktop here that is a few years old. Within the first year, HP replaced the hard drive twice for failure reasons. On the third same failure I fixed the problem by wiping the HD and reinstalling the OS from scratch. This wiped out the HP system health program which was reporting problems that weren't there and creating problems by trying to fix itself.
Never again will I consider anything from HP. NEVER!

This is actually standard operating practice for ANY OEM (HP, Dell, Sony, etc). I worked for Dell tech support for 5 years. Dell spends a lot of time getting the computer ready with the operating system it was shipped with. Testing all the drivers and such. If you put another OS on it, then we cannot diagnose if your problem is due to the IS itself or the hardware. So, we require yo re-install the original OS if you want warranty support. We also only support our own legally licensed OEM OS. If you install some other OS, it would not be licensed by us and we have to refer you to whoever licensed your copy. Tech support loses computer manuf revenue and we have to make sure we are supporting what we should be supporting and not supporting what we shouldn't be. That's the way it is. And its not just DELL. It's the same for ALL of them.

I've been playing with it ever since the Developer Preview was released, and am still having a hard time finding a reason to like it.

That would be the other reason...
