I'm still close to the top of my game - yet remain fairly anonymous. I never had the "benefit" of social media in my climb.

Some folks clearly have too much time to waste if their world is runs on social media and it "is embedded in their business workflows, shopping habits, and news sources".

Besides, it's not called iPeople, so it can't be any good.

Yawn.
To disagree without being disagreeable is the art of debate. Simply because one has a strong opinion, it does not necessarily make an alternative opinion less valid.

I'm with WaZak. I've been at this since the 8086 / 4.77Mhz came out.(a real screamer) got my MCSE & CCNA back in 1999. Add microsoft actually lost its collective mind.
Does Windows 8 have anything a grownup might use?
If everybody is Facebooking, tweeting, instant messaging, and reading their favorite magazine articles from Teen and the Enquirer using Windows 8. When the F... are they getting any work done?

Yes, a way for the enterprise to build and allocate business process apps to any device.

But that may not be important to you, grandpa.

You all have it wrong. I will never let this app take over actually using the native Twitter app or the Facebook app. But what it does let me do is lets me talk to the people i want to talk to with a preset social media preference per that person. I kinda see it as a shortcut. Now if i can add my Xboxlive people then im good to go.

I agree with WaZak & Raider61 ( tho' I started with the Z-80 chip ). I use my computers to actually do work. Coding C/C++/C#. Using Source Control programs, Word Docs & Spreadsheets. Integrating communications in the company with Outlook and Our safe controlled Enterprise Servers.

I'd never reveal info on public Clouds or store important data there. I have no time for Facebook, Twitter etc.. ( if you do, I hope you have a zillion apps available to do so, and that you enjoy them ) I'll keep deleting all the games from my machine and adding productivity apps to the desktop.

However I am excited about Windows 8 ( and Phone 8 , RT etc )we will be able to do very good things with them. I just don't think that they are currently sitting on the 'Apps' Tiles out of the box or in the Store yet. Currently the apps are tinker toys. When I see CAD app(lications), Video editing, Database managers, and metro-fied ( sorry for making up a word ) versions of thousands of the desktiop programs out there, then it will be easier to say that Windows 8 is mature.

By the way I do share media & files but only on my own Cloud servers, co-ordinate workplaces with others etc.. Oh and I am a Grandpa ;-) Probably shouldn't dis we older power users, you'd be amazed at what we actually do know about systems architecture, interface design, deep OpSys internals and inter-program communications.

So WaZak, the real powerful and cool stuff is what we're going to be doing across all the new Windows OpSys's. ... Think I'll visit my broker account and buy some more MSFT !!!

For all of you "old timers" that can't seem to handle change....whether you like it not the world is changing....

I'm a grandpa too....nine grandkids and I've been doing this for 43 years and still going strong as an IT director at a college....the kids here live in a "people" world....that's how they communicate, learn and maintain relationships...professionally and personally and they manage to accomplish a lot of useful and productive work....the choice is yours.....adapt or be left behind.

Fascinating fact.....the medieval university banned Gutenberg's printing press from its campuses....fortunately there were those who could see the future and embraced the change!

Try it sometime....you just might like it!
