I have done this several times. I have also tried the netplwiz trick, which looks like the same thing. I still get the password log in every time the pc goes stand by. I don't see any other cures on any forums.

I can't STAND windows 8! I am a student, I am also the ONLY USER on my 2 pc's! I understand trying to get the layers for protection, but please, a password on MY PC WILL NOT DO IT! cramming it down my throat, nope! I did hold my control long enough not to throw the laptop. I have tried several of the ways mentioned above and absolutely had to restore to factory settings! A massive amount of work is lost! I am furious that this is so bad!

OK, so let's say I have multiple user accounts on here and I still want mine, as principle admin, to be password-protected, but it's OK if the others are not. How does one make THAT happen?

Win8 passwords are driving me nuts.
Just bought a Toshiba C875D S7330 laptop with Win8 for my non-computer-literate wife.
I was able to use the netplwiz thing to stop having to enter a password for my only (wife's) user account, where her picture is shown.
But now there is a blue rectangle saying "enter password" on any restart or power-up. The old password I thought I had deleted still worked, so it seems to be a Win8 password but who knows. And this netplwiz won't remove it.

Thanks for this. It worked for a few weeks and now I'm back to being locked again! Excessively irritating.
