Instead of splitting up Windows they could do what Ubuntu does. They could create an LTS (Long Term Support) which would come once every 3 years, for businesses and release a version every year for consumers. That way they do not have to support 2 different versions of Windows. This could also allow them to offer the LTS for full price and non-LTS for free or very cheep. Also they could implement interface changes gradually, thus have people get used to the new interface elements, rather then have everyone learn the new interface from scratch (like the difference between Win 7 and Win 8).

Microsoft may deliver Windows updates on a different schedule for consumer vs. business markets; however, they absolutely will not create two different Windows code bases. There's simply too much business efficiency gained by maintaining a single code base.

This is just pipe dream from some analysts. Apple have two OS and one of them is dying (Mac) while the other is growing (IPad, IPhone, IPod). There is even rumor of Apple leaving Intel chips for an ARM design chip which runs on....OSi.

Maintaining two OS is very time consuming and very expensive. So why will you subject yourself to that? If you look at what Microsoft has done and doing, you would realize they are trying to unify their OS and hardware. Windows Phone, Xbox, tablets, laptops and desktop, all unify under 1 OS.

Where do they get these people so called analysts?
