I remember cries just like this when Windows XP came out. People dislike change, but change is what people crave.
Overall, I see Windows 8 as huge success. Microsoft now has a decent tablet/phone operating system and there is some continuity across all there products. Granted metro doesn't really work for desktops, but again, it's easy to turn off. On tablets and phones, I think metro is more polished than iOS (I can't compare it to Andriod because I've never used it).

Why is Win 8 so bad? Am I the only one who's figured out that Windows 8 is just Windows 7 with a smart phone envelope on the front-end? IE a really big Start Button?
Every new OS comes out and people cry foul without actually seeing it. Win 8 is a big sham by Microsoft. There is nothing really "new" it to cry foul about. Unless rearranging where you find things constitutes "BAD"...

I just can't read posts like this where people are talking like they actually know something.
The folder layout in Windows 8 is the same as the folder layout in Windows 7.
The boot time is faster, because you're loading Metro first, but your boot time is the same actually..... You're just being tricked that its faster because of Metro. This was intentional....
Slow interface? I have 2 identical drives, 1 with Win7, the other with Win8. I've been testing impact on our enterprise for the past 3 months, and frankly, the interfaces run exactly the same with the same software sets. Trick is to use the correct drivers from the manufacturers and not MS's, which are installed in Windows 8 by default.
Metro.... wasn't made for desktops, but Win8 is... because Win8 IS Win7 with a Metro envelope. The next installment of Win7.2 will ensure that the Windows phone, Surface Pro, and Windows Desktop can all play ahppy together, like the Apple suite of products. That is MS's end goal.

What on earth did you post?
Are you saying someone in the GNU freeware/shareware development community is building a better smartphone/tablet/desktop integration product for our lifestyles? I'd be happy if I ever see that in my lifetime. But.... Even Google is having trouble with their own OS. Buddy, just not gunna happen.
Our only players on the market are MS, Apple, and Google. It'll remain that way for the next 10 years. Apple lost their shining light and are loosing market because of it. Google can't figure out what their Desktop version of Chrome is supposed to actually do yet. Microsoft is actually getting good press for their new phone and tablet. When the Surface Pro comes out, it'll destroy any other tablet available, because it'll be a real computer, not a toy. Their integration of 3 devices that 'act' like your desktop computer, and are fully integrated, is something that all of these companies have been striving for, for 10 years. Microsoft looks like their the only ones coming out ahead in this fight.

If your statement "Metro.... wasn't made for desktops, but Win8 is... because Win8 IS Win7 with a Metro envelope." is true, why the heck didn't MS give user the choice to use it or not? Instead MS said "no choice," and non-Metro user have to rely on workarounds and/or third-party vendors. Tacky, at the very least.

I make my choice everyday when I click desktop and then click whatever the heck else I want to do with my desktop on win 8. You don't need a start bar to use windows. Half the time I can't find things with the start bar anyway. I can just type whatever program I need instead of hunt for it in accessories.

Also, does this mean that, like other OSes, people will loose support much quicker? Won't that be a problem for people who never upgrade anything? (I know people still using old XP machines.)
Need a Windows ISO image?

If Microsoft is stubborn and stupid and if they still cater the touch users and forget about me then I will never use Windows again and immigrate to Linux.
I will never use Apple as I hate that evil company.
This is the last warning I give Microsoft.... take care of me and users like me or you will lose us permanently.

Windows 9 was already being worked on before Windows 8 finished launching. Just was Windows 8 was already in production before Windows 7 launched. Microsoft doesn't sit on its laurels waiting for the world to pass by before releasing a new OS. It takes more than a few months to make a new OS, something most of you seem to have forgotten while spewing your Anti-MS rhetoric.

Ok, no where in this do I see that you even use windows 8. But just for the sake of argument lets say you do.
I use windows 8 everyday and it was designed for Keyboard and Mouse users like YOU and I. If it was not I would have punctured holes in my LCD TV that the media computer I built with windows 8 is plugged into.
So, now I have some instructions that will help you. Since your probably sitting on your couch with a laptop or ipad in your lap, I want you to look over at the corner of your room. Now stand up, and walk over to the corner of your room. Put your hands on the corner of your room. Glide them up and down and just fall in love with the corner of your room. Now, think of the happiest moment of your life. Think hard. Now imagine a menu that will allow you to do anything you want with your computer.
That's Windows 8.
