You'd think Microsoft would value its early adopters, the few users of WP devices.

You'd be wrong.

I suppose those who move to android will get their update in less than 5 months! maybe even 3 months! we all know how that goes...

If you have a Nexus device, you get the updates almost immediately.

I have a T-Mo android. Its been at 2.2.2 since 1 month after I bought it. Exchange email is still broken even in 4.0, so I guess it really doesn't matter. I wonder where the problem really lies. With MS or the Telco's that want to lock every feature down.

I've had a Windows Phone from the start and am happy with it...with or without this minor update.

Us LG Optimus 7 adopters are out of luck regardless. Besides why all the fuss over the ability to 'enlarge tiles' or 'add a picture to a lock screen'? What kind of update is this really? I think this will be the 'formula' for M$ and company - release hardware that cannot be upgraded. For any user locked into a 3 year, like myself (1 yr to go), you cannot help but feel a bit betrayed.

First, the differences between Windows Phone 7 & 8 beneath the surface are massive. WP8 is basically a completely different OS. It has Windows 8 at its core. This change has been anticipated for a long time. This fundamental difference means that WP8 is incapable of running on any WP7 phone. This is not an attack on the consumer! It is partly an attempt at reducing the effort required in maintaining all its OSes, and it's also a way to make it more convenient for a developer to develop an app for both the Windows 8 and WP8 platforms, which in turn can result in more apps on both app stores. Also, look at what Miarfeus said. Nobody guaranteed you future OS upgrades on your phone. You bought the phone because it seemed like a good phone and you thought it was worth the money. Its functionality has not decreased over time, right? You have been provided with updated which improve the functionality of the phone, so you have what you paid for plus more. There will always be better gadgets that come out. I have a 256 MB flash drive that I paid $15 for several years ago, and I now you can get 32GB drives for about the same price. Tech moves on, and complaining about it doesn't make anything better.

He bought the phone based on what it was capable of at the time, and he doesn't need an ever-expanding array of features to be satisfied with a good product. Plus I'm sick and tired of hearing abuse heaped on people who enjoy Microsoft products. Differences in preferences should not be ample reason to throw insults, something I realized myself several years ago.

You'd think Apple and Google would do the same. But, you'd be wrong.

considering the good lads at XDA just foisted WP8 only a PRE WP7 device, i'd say it has been a double slap in the face for early Windows Phone adopters this week.

Why would someone knowledgable be upset? All Windows Phone 7 handsets were underpowered. Everyone knew a major update was coming, along with competitive hardware. Anyone would know their phone wouldn't be compatible with later versions. Everyone who has followed Android knows that updates don't always come as fast as users would like.

Seriously, if you're upset that your phone doesn't have little and large tiles on the screen, but just medium sized tiles, you need to get a life.

I wouldn't think that. I would think MS would act in a commercially reasonable manner, devoting its resources to expanding before taking care of early adopters, considering its scant market share - pretty much as Google and Apple do.

It's a corporation. It's not your friend. It doesn't have an obligation to people who bought the product. It's silly to ask a corporation to do things against its own interests.

Microsoft just needs to make their own phone, so it can receive the updates quicker like the Nexus.

Here it is march and I had to hack my update to 7.8 on my Trophy. Seems it was one of those early Windows 7 phones forgotten by everyone. It such a minor upgrade (7.8) I am not sure why anyone had to wait so long? Bottom line I understand that just like any OS sometimes it has to move beyond hardware of the past. Unfortunately, I guess that says a lot for the crummy phones like the Lumia 900 which also is left in the dust with Win8. Even though I did not mind my Windows phone and it had some OK features. I absolutely will not be buying another Windows phone.
