There is Google Offline -- which leads me to believe my Google mail already resides somewhere in my hard drive? But I wonder where? Anybody know?

From what I can see, your offline mail, which depending upon how it's been configured will be limited to a week or a month's mail, plus starred and draught items, will be stored as cookies in «mail.google.com», which can be accessed by entering «chrome://settings/cookies» in the Chrome adress bar....

I lost years of Hotmails when my account was hacked at the server along with many others a couple years ago - since then I've used Thunderbird to download the emails, I set the default save directory to my backup directory, so everytime I back up my emails are backed up along with it.
