So I actually want Windows 8 tablets to succeed, but at those prices, I just can't see that happening. With manufacturing costs reported to be about $23, the touch covers should be included, not sold separately at a greater than 400% profit margin. And both the Pro and RT tablets need to come down at least $100. I would be very interested in a 128 gig Surface Pro with a touch cover for $800, but absolutely not at $1100.

Your kidding right? I can get an awesome MabBook Air, for that price and it runs OS X, Windows and Linux... And is very cool.

Overall I am happy with the price, cause the surface dances circles around any tablet from a productivity stand point and for only a small amount more than ipad. It's a solid deal / price.

That's the whole point. You should be comparing the surface pro to a mac book air or any other ultra book to determine the value at $899. Surface Pro does everything the mac book pro does at a lower price and has a tablet form factor as well. I am anyway afraid that my point will be wasted on those seeing the comment on an iPad or a Mac.

No it is not, look at Samsung ATiv smart pc pro and it is $1200, you can not compare Apple computer to windows, windows productivity and apple is more about entertainment. Most businesses out there have office and windows stuff, they use windows server and therefore you need pc.

My concern is the same as I have for any ultrabook - The on-device storage will get consumed very quickly by any apps that I install, so I'm thinking that cloud-based storage with some really intelligent caching (for when you're not online) will be called for.

Sorry, but what is a "full operation system" for you? Android and iOs with their app ecosystem are halffull operating systems?

For those that are wondering, the surface (both really) are more then just tablets.
Current tablets are really good for consumption but quite frankly suck for creation, and this is the hybrid style device that will help users get rid of old laptops and desktops in the home, something both apple and google have failed to do.
