Or just don't use iTunes. My wife and I have iPhones, but currently don't even have iTunes installed on either of our PCs. I rarely have a need to use iTunes. It has always been a system hog and I hate having to install it.

Some people like, most people, have music on their phones and want Itunes for that. Just because you are your wife don't is irrelevant to us and most people. So don't try an bash something that you don't want.

I uninstalled 11. Installed 10.6 and in the process I got an error, "Can't read from libraries.itl because it was created by a newer version of iTunes". Now I searched for all .itl files and deleted them. Now 10 installed. But it didn't pick up my existing music library. Had to import all my music. Then had to re-sync my iPod. Then, upon connecting my iPhone 3GS, my apps wanted to re-sync from an older configuration on the PC. After backing up the iPhone and re-syncing it, I'm worried about one app, Stanza, that is a book reader and about 20 books I have on the iPhone.

In short, the simple uninstall of 11 and install of 10 is not as simple as your article describes.

FileHippo.com you can find previous versions of iTunes, this link should work: http://www.filehippo...tunes_64/13259/
for 64bit
Apple just made me cross to the "dark side", with this release they just gained another HATER, till my iPod expires :-( after that NO MORE iStuff of any kind.

I agree with Coryphaeus, it is not that simple, If you just uninstall ver 11 and then install ver 10, you have to start everything from scratch..

The recommendation would be, before uninstalling 11, export your playlists, library, etc... then, when 10 gets re-installed, import your previously exported files.. it's time consuming but the only way to get your playlists as before..

I know where iTunes 10.7 is. It's on the Apple Support Downloads page and in the Consumer Software category.

You said in your article it`s no good going to Apple`s site.
I have just been there and downloaded iTunes 10.6.3 which was the previous one to Version 11.
I am currently running Mountain Lion.
The previous version is definitely on the Apple Site.

i used oldapps.com to grab itunes v10.7.0.21. other than library error message (which i also received), you will not be able to sync apps. i haven't come a solution for this app syncing problem yet. what a sloppy cluster quack of an update regarding v11. thanks apple.

To be clear, for the computer illiterate, I've read that I need to do this:

The current iTunes library is iTunes Library.itl
The previous iTunes library you want is iTunes Library <date>.itl with the latest date.

To replace, delete My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl file, then copy Previous iTunes Libraries\iTunes Library <date>.itl to My Music\iTunes and rename to remove the date so it looks like iTunes Library.itl.

Then uninstall 11 and reinstall 10.6.3?

Is that right?

Gah.

Hi Rick,
I followed your instructions to download from 11 to 10 itunes, to the tee except that when I got to the previous library , I could copy the previous date but couldn't paste the date onto the "library" for retyping in Library intl The same message comes out again" can't read as I have newer version". Help !
I changed simply because the 11 has really messed up my itunes library; many songs are missing and the so called albums are all eschewed ! Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

So if you don't use it that means you never sync your information....move things to the cloud either...so when you get a new phone you will lose everything that you have on the existing phone?
Doesn't really make sense....
