The problem wiyh your post is the Surface isnt trying to mimic either. Desktops are not tabkets and neither are Ultrabooks.
Its a tablet that has simikar featjres of both becsuse uts a PC. Its not mesnt to be an ipad or android tablet. Its meant to be a more mobile full pc. Its a pc in the mist poryable form factor.
It has the power kf the desmtop with uts i5 and 4gb ram, the mobility of a taet and a kehbkard for the times typing on the screen is not very good.
Its what the ipad shoukd have been and if apple thought of it you've thought it was the best thing since sliced bread

I really like the RT interface and would be willing to put up with the app deficit for a while. But I'm not going to also put up with an inferior screen and camera too.
MS got a lot right with the Surface RT, but expandable memory and MS Office aren't enough to make up for skimping on something as important to a tablet as screen quality.

I love my surface too. And to what you said earlier, it is not an iPad... In my personal experience, it is much more than an iPad. It is a PC and it is a tablet. The truth is, it is the tablet that every one wanted the ipad to be... It is the PC that everyong tried the make the iPad be. I sold my iPad after getting my Surface on launch. And yes, I waited in line all day for my iPad2 on launch and grew to really love my ipad. It is that for all the ipad did right, it left so much more to be desired for me. Case in point, 80% of the time I had to bring a laptop with with my iPad. Now, 20% of the time I take a laptop with my surface. I dont even miss the 3G of the ipad because my lumia 920 has 4G hotspot.
I cannot want for the future of windows 8. I love skydrive actually syncing my windows 8 and 7 machines, I love how windows 8 apps sync accross devices.

I would imagine another mobile device becuase I dont make that many mistakes on my surface keyboard and I touch type... If it is a suface keyboard, give him/her time.
What people dont realize is that the surface keyboard is not supposed to replace a real tactile full featured keyboard. It is to give people a nice and effiecient keyboard that is integreated with the tablet. It is more that a smart cover.
The touch keyboard on any device is there just because there is not real one. Yes it more than gets the job done. It is for mobile use. The surface keyboard just ups the productivity value. Instead of using half the screen for a keyboard, you can sit your table and use the full screen of the device. This keyboard is not and extra device to take with you like the alternatives for the ipad or the fullsize keyboards that make your tablet a laptop... The surface is a tablet first, it just has laptop ways.
For people who bash the surface, I know for a fact they have not really used one... Even the reviewers are poor at using the surface. I dont have kids, I have toys and I have lots of toys. I Also love to work. I dont always need jack of all trade devices as I believe in using the right tool for the job, but dog-gone the surface is a super solid performing device. It out performs my old ipad by a longshot..
Shoot, every app I purchased for some PC functionality is in the surface. Every remote desktop app, i have it in the surface... Though I am now using the Teamviewer app to remote into my mac from the surface. USB drives can be used with my surface out of the box as well as cloud storage, real VPN access, network/USB printer access out of the box as well. Again what a solid performing device.
Too bad that all of these great features that the surface rt/pro and windows 8 bring are over the heads of most tablet users... They don't need nor understand the power that the surface has because quite frankly they don't need it.

Great comment - I too love my iPad but recognize it's very serious limitations and get downright irritated at the Apple business model. I have Windows 8 on my desktop and am very excited about the possibilities that it opens for the new tablet and ultra-books that are coming out. I just wish I could port over all the iPad/iPhone apps that I've purchased over the years!

I always thought a core level processor is overkill on a a surface as it raises its price, decreases its battery. I hoped MS could go for clover trail or bay trail in its next iteration because we havent heard much from AMD in this regard. Now it seems like temash is an even better choice...more powerful than atom based clover trails but not as much battery draining or expensive as core processors.
Even the 8.6 inch size seems like a good idea. A lot of people in the east are shorter with smaller hands
11.6 and 14 inch surfaces seem like obvious future extensions of screen sizes. All they have to do is price them right....as touch based win 8 tablets available now for less then $600-700.

Try harder next time and see if you can get your point across with a valid way of communicating it through a keyboard. GEEZ.

Every blogger, reviewer, and hard core techie should be contacting MS about making a 10 inch Surface with AMD's Temash inside. Acer's W510 is almost perfect, but with Temash (which supports USB 3, 1080p, HD gaming and 10+ hrs of battery) we would have a masterpiece.

because it's more of a tablet with a keyboard than a laptop with touch
sure it can run traditional apps but it made massive ergonomic sacrifices to function as a tablet
a tablet with no apps that is

And what sacrifices would that be please? Or is it mere FUD+BS?
