It didn't prompt you to schedule a scan during the next restart? Okay, completely shut off your computer, restart it, and IMMEDIATELY, attempt to run the scan. You should be prompted to schedule the scan during your next restart. This is EXACTLY what the message should say when you try to run a scan:"The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed only by Restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule this disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?"

Okay...well, not a problem. I would still restart your computer and then use it as normal. If it spikes again....well, let's just wait and see.

Going back to the sysinternals posts again, some posts were referring to high temp on the video card chip (GPU). TBird in all of this have you blown out the fins on the heat sink on the GPU?

Take a can of compressed air, if you have one, and spray air inside your computer. The heatsink is the main fan on top of the processor. You can't miss it. More than likely it is right next to the Power Supply. If you do not have compressed air, use a small fan or anything that can blow the dust particles out of the inside of your computer.Since you are not familiar with the inside of your computer, DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE THE CASE. If you do not have a small fan or anything that can blow air...improvise, blow air into the case yourself.

alright im going to take a break for a little while. i can see from the process explorer already that the DPC's are beginning to climb into the 50% range, and i dont feel like being on the computer when that happens. its the most frustrating experience in the world. so, as of right now it is clear the problem is not fixed. whether i installed the driver right, well i dont know. if anyone has any other suggestions before i go get a graphics card feel free.but right now, i think its time to look for a graphics card. i posted somewhere earlier in this thread my "graphics" needs. i also want to say that money isnt that much of a problem. so dont worry about that side. but i only want a graphics card that i need, not just the top of the line, because i wont utilize its full potentialalright im probably done for the night.

[quote name='spike']If it is no longer under warranty, it's time to take it to a local repair shop, or a best buy geek squad, to test it with proper equipment and determin what part is bad, the motherboard or GPU, and then see if it is worth repairing or REPLACEMENT.

Yeah, it's sad but true, and while I mean no disrespect, Tbird, simply does not have the technical expertise to do any in depth troubleshooting, so the only thing left to do is take it to a shop where they have the proper equipment and go from there, again, no disrepect intended, just the way it is.

Hi Tbird. Well, still in all, your system should not spike to the point of becoming inoperable. Yes, some increased CPU usage is going to occur but not to the point that your system freezes. You mentioned it in your last post...time for you to look about a new graphics card. Also, I would heed spike's advice and be prepared to check the motherboard as well.

:-) Personally, I would recommend myself LOL No, in all seriousness, geek squad is fine. However, they are costly. See if you can find a local computer shop in your area. You will find a much better price structure and better service. However, if you are not in an area that has computer technicians, Geek Squad if fine.

Well, price other places as well. See if anybody has an in-home service so you don't have to bring your computer anywhere. Also, make sure you explain everything that you have done so far...print this thread if you have to. You do not want to pay for something that you already tried.
