I'm a Dad with a teenager who's Addicted to Facebook. Facebook has gotten my daughter in trouble with the local Police.

I need a program that can BLOCK Every connection to FACEBOOK, from ALL the computers on my home network!!!!!

Is there ANY program that can help me?

Hi, ML.

There are a lot of good parental control programs out there, and I'm pretty sure that all of them can restrict Facebook.

If you've got Windows Vista or above, you can use Microsoft's Windows Essentials: Family Safety. Another good option, Norton Online Family. I should mention that I haven't tried either of these in a couple of years (my kids are passed needing such things), so I'm going on long memory here.

One more comment: Rather than blocking Facebook from all the PCs, you need to block it from her logon account. Everyone needs to have their own account with their own password. Indeed, without that, none of these programs will work properly, because your teenager will be able to change the settings.

How about the one method that prevents most work arounds? Use the router. From there you can block facebook, and everything related to it.

This assumes your router has "parental controls" built into it. Granted, most current routers do...but if the OP has an older router, then it might not.

OP = "original poster"

I forget if a WRT-54G has parental controls and I am too lazy this morning to go find a manual on Linksys' site to check. Regardless, that particular router is very easy to use a third party firmware, if memory serves, so you likely could install third party firmware that includes parental controls.

No, this is assuming the router has even the most basic firewall controls. Something even the cheapest routers have.

I suppose one could also use OpenDNS to do it, I believe.

I know that my Apple router has no such built-in ability, which is kind of crappy on Apple's part...but it does not bother me as I have no need to block anything since it just me (I have not caught my dog using the computer to go to "naughty" dog sites yet <grin>).

Thankfully, I have neither a dog nor cat to worry about anymore. As you can tell, I haven't bothered blocking anything yet either. When my little one gets old enough for this to be a concern, I have no doubts I will end up blocking content through the router. It will be far simpler to block the content there, than trying to set up parental controls on a dozen machines...
