Thanks for this. I think a lot of people are unaware that internet radio even exists.

XBOX Music looks great but it is a failure in ease of use when it comes to playlist maintenance and syncing with other devices. It's cloud is also a major mess. This app needs major work,

the built in music app would be good if it allowed podcasts and streaming from skydrive. this way, phone 8 people could sync their podcast activity with their PC's/tablets, etc.

Spotify does have a web client at play.spotify.com
Don't know if it is compatible with the modern UI version of Internet Explorer 10 though.

I do not know what that visualization plugin is, but my favorite is gforce by Sound Spectrum. The paid version is well worth the money if you like visualization plugins, but the free version is awesome too. They also have several other ones that are very cool, but I prefer gforce, far and away the best one I have ever seen.

Sorry, keyboard slip.

I was going to say that I will never use an app for Windows 8, because I will never use Windows 8, because I resent that Microsoft attempted to lock us in by:

1. Getting rid of the ability to play DVD's.
2. Trying to sell us that same ability through surreptitious means.

Disgusting marketing tactic.

What are you talking about? I watch DVDs in Windows 8 all the time. Download VLC or Windows Media Center. Both are free (for now at least).

I don't understand, why are you even whining? You can install VLC, K-lite (Media Player Classic) or get Windows Media Center from "Add Windows Feature" in Windows 8 (which is free for pro edition). All versions of Mac and previous versions of Windows included the price of legitimate DVD codec license. With Windows 8, they have removed the price of license and providing you option to buy the pack separately, which is free for sometime. Even with Ubuntu, you need to install VLC (its not preinstalled).

If you are a troll, at least come up with a real argument!

I am a pc man, but I like Itunes, when it comes internet radio. Easy to use, both in location stations and adding these stations to your playlist. Grouping and naming playlists are a breeze.

You got that right. I have yet to figure out how to create a playlist and in Windows 8 and sync it to my Nokia Lumia 920. I'm about ready to break something. They need to bring Zune back. Much easier.

So right you are. I was totally confused on how to sync my playlists when I signed up for the service - only to find out later that you need to download and install a totally separate app to do this for you. What?! How retarded is that?! On to the next music service....

I wish there were ratings for articles so I could rate this a one-star.
A more appropriate title is "The best Windows 8 Streaming Radio apps". I came here to see if there's better locally-stored-media apps for Windows 8. Instead, you just say "Hey, all those internet radios you already knew about? They exist for 8 as well"

Am I alone in considering "music app" and "streaming radio app" to be two separate things?

I just got Win 8 over the weekend and have used the Windows Music app to play my music (it's also the default player). I got really PO'd tonight when an ad started playing when I was listening to my own library. REALLY. And I have to buy a pass to listen to my own music ad free through that? NO. I'll just stick to iTunes apparently. What a crock.
