Dear Friends,

On my Dell Inspiron 530 (ISP Comcast) using Firefox virtually all the time, I've been frequently receiving an update reminder from Firefox to upgrade to their version 17.
But I read a post from one user (I know, only one) who wrote that Firefox 17 virtually stopped his computer in its tracks. What has been your experience
with it or what have you heard?

Thanks,

Bill

Hmm, it seems fine for me. The latest version is 18 now btw.

So it's FF 18 already? I don't use Firefox, but sure things like that can happen when a company is focused on a mad race with other companies and releases "new", most likely unstable versions every few months. I said many times things were going TOO fast and this is getting us nowhere. Did you try Opera? You shouldn't update if you don't have to or you risk things going awry.

I've been using Chrome for a while now, and haven't found it to be an issue. Why hold up new features until the next major version when you don't have to?

You know, I prefer using new versions when they really are new, that is offer brand new features that were not present before. Why update if the only result is minor bugs fixed? And I presume this is the case now with Firefox and Chrome meaning these changes are cosmetic. What can you  actually change within a few months? You in the West hit the download button every time an update is available as it was drilled into you and you do it without thinking. That's not good. If you use say v. 5.01 the REAL change will be, at best, v. 6.51 and that in two year's time or it used to be that way. And what if the autoupdate downloads something that's unstable and messes things up? Software companies, too, can stumble.

old versions can contain vulnerabilities and exploits to them
most critical programs such as browsers and plugins should be updated to most secure version. but the latest version it's not obligatory the safest...
