Maybe they don't include a mouse because they assume you are buying to replace a laptop, so you already have a wireless bluetooth mouse, but not a keyboard.

It's actually very logical.

wow. reviewer missed some critical info. jon lacobi did you notice the leather case in the package that also doubles as a stand for the device when on the go?

I have one of these and while I admit its not quite perfect, it meets the needs I was looking for (portability, tablet functionality and support for legacy desktop apps)

my main complaints are that there aren't a lot of metro apps yet (but ie 10 metro mode is actually quite good). unfortunately my citrix app is desktop only and doesn't support touch gestures (but does on android). the device is admittedly a little heavy to hold in your hand but is usable one handed while in portrait mode (ive done so on the subway quite a bit).

overall id say its extremely portable, is very useful even without using the keyboard and is crazy fast.

im not even sure what the reviewer even used the device for? just some game benchmarks and a cursory eh its a hybrid so it cant do both things well.

Do you find the docking station pleasant? Nice to have the extra ports, but it looks unstable, and the docking looks weird. The whole design seems awkward to me. I'm a huge Acer fan, and am still considering the Dual Screen Iconia, but not this model. I have to figure out what Win8 tablet to recommend to my clients. Surface is ruled out. So Acer would be my next choice, but which model?

My dream tablet would be two-screen, and open like a pad folio, have at least three USB ports, an HDMI or full Display Port (meaning, sound and picture carried); with a kickstand or other method of propping one side up, built into the back of one of the 'sides'. Then 'docking' would be via USB hub, not a thin device into which you insert, the tablet.

The Dual Iconia opens like a Hazel or leather pad folio. Yoga might be an option too. I don't see the advantage of bending the thing backwards, seems like it's too precarious, as well.

Jon, it will be nice if you have included some pictures of the stand. Also, why does it needs a docking station? If the keyboad is bluetooth, there will be no need for a docking station.

Also, for other people that are new to Windows 8, can you explain the difference between Windows RT, 8 and Pro. I know the diferrence but if you are doing a review, you should include this information, especially if you site the different models and price point.

On the mouse point, people have some mouse preference. Smaller, larger, right hand or left hand, extras buttons, etc. So this is a mood point, but it will have been great if the keyboad had a touchpad, which does not have and you fail to mention. The Surface keyboad have one.

This leave the Surface Pro as a better tablet than the Acer Iconia. While the Surface Pro does not arrive until next month and we can test the real battery life not estimate. The Surface Pro have 128GB of HD, 4GB of memory, a screen 10.6" with the same resolution of 1920 by 1080 and a tad lighter. With the type keyboad it will be $1,029.

Here is my take. Targus makes a nice usb3 all in one port replicator. This has the ability to drive an external monitor. So one of those plugged in to a full monitor, speakers, external drives, regular full keyboard and mouse. The Targus unit hooked in to the dock. Leave all that at the house. Buy an extra charger. Pack that and the Bluetooth keyboard for trips. I am seriously considering the W700p for replacing my laptop and tablet for all work duties. It is likely either the W700p or the Lenovo Yoga.

It's a touch screen.

I think it's a fair assumption they want assume users will use the touch screen + keyboard shortcuts rather than a mouse.

The desktop bit is difficult to maneouver with fingers only; I'd go with Bankerdanny's explanation here...
