I'm surprised that I haven't seen a statement from Google / Samsung. I hope they are not in a state for denial...

Typical overblown media hype: this is a permissions issue and is therefore a potential vulnerability. There are no exploits for this currently in the wild. Thanks to an active user community and open-source software, a fix for the problem has already been posted here: http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=2048511
If this were an Apple product, we'd be waiting weeks for them to acknowledge that there was even an issue, let alone address it.

Media hype? Really? You mean someone in the media would purposely make a big stink about nothing to to get some some attention? No way! Really?
Please, say it ain't so. If it's true, I'll have to stop believing everything in the media about Apple without questioning. Oh man, life just got so much more complicated. Actually having to think. Who would have thought we'd still need to do that in this day and age. How retrograde.

Yeah, but it ISN'T an Apple product. I wonder how long it will take for Google and/or Samsung to issue an apology to its customers for being so negligent and careless.

"if this were an apple problem"
three words...'closed eco system'
I have an HP elite desktop running windows 7 64 and a samsung galaxy note 10.1 running jellybean stock because I enjoy the freedom the respective os's offer. I have an iPhone 5 64GB because I don't want to watch and protecy my phone the same way I do the former two devices. it makes life a whole hella lot easier.

Actually your open source solution doesn't really apply here as the problem is with Samsung. For example if Redhat has a problem with their Linux derivative I expect them to fix it not the Linux community. In this case your dependent on Samsung and possibly your carrier for the update.
