"it could bar the program in the future if it made the case that its own technology was better than, or at least matched, Google's."
Perhaps the #1 reason why I refuse to own a single Apple product. I cannot believe people condone this type of corporate policy, and all for what, being the single richest company in the history of mankind is not enough? Shameful!

What "type of corporate policy" might that be?

@ Gregg

Re: " ... it could bar the program in the future if it made the case that its own technology was better than, or at least matched, Google's."

Now, why on earth would Apple do that when it can now not only collect location and search data from its own Maps app, which it doesn't share with Google, but also all the data from Google Maps users?

It's Google who has every interest in keeping their Mapping application off the iOS platform so as not to share user data with Apple. Apple's job is to make their own Maps app better in order to attract as many users away from Google so it doesn't have to share user data and more importantly access.

Like any marketing and advertising company, Google generates revenue by offering access to their user base to advertisers, for a fee. The better the quality of the user base the greater the fee they can charge.

Google realized that its massive anti-Apple Maps campaign failed to force Apple to reverse course and that Apple users were not going to switch to Android over the issue. After initially making it very public that it would not release a maps app for iOS, Google changed its mind after realizing it was not going to recover access to the very sought after iOS user base and was therefore not going to be able to sell that access to advertisers.

Yes, I downloaded Google Maps too, mostly to find out first hand what all the fuss is about. From what I've seen so far, I'm not terribly impressed nor terribly disappointed. But then, my life doesn't revolve around Maps. I figure most of the 10 million downloaders are in a similar boat.

From dictionary.com: (my additions are in parenthesis)
censor - an official (corporation) who examines books, plays, news reports, motion pictures, radio and television programs, letters, cablegrams, (applications), etc., for the purpose of suppressing parts deemed objectionable on moral, political, military, or other (financial?) grounds.
Are you done playing ignorant?

Sorry if I offended you Wally Duke. I thought you might have had something interesting and intelligent to say about Apple's "corporate policy".

I stand corrected.

Such arrogance! I smell weakness.

2. Confidence vs arrogance often stem from two different roots.

Arrogance is often underplayed by insecurity. An arrogant person tends to be arrogant to compensate for areas of weakness that distress the individual.

You might find that article educational.

PS. Don't confuse my inquisitiveness with ignorance. There are many things I don't know. I don't need to pretend otherwise and I'm not afraid to ask questions.

I guess I must have mistaken your inquisitiveness for sarcasm. If this is the case, and you really are not playing ignorant, I must say I am shocked, but I apologize just the same.
You clearly do not demand enough for yourself to reject censorship, but who am I to judge? To each their own.

What are you shocked by, the fact that I'm not "playing ignorant", that I don't instinctively know what you mean by "type of corporate policy" or that I don't accept your opinion as my reality at face value?

I don't live my life feeling as if I'm a victim of other people's choices. I'm smart enough to figure out what I want and resourceful enough to get to what I want regardless of the brand names of the tools at my disposal.

Outright rejection of what you believe offends your ideological sensitivity is a form of censorship in itself. You might want to look at the limits you impose on yourself as far as choices go, before you worry about the limitations others put on you.

All that being said, I still don't see how copy/pasting the definition of censorship tells me anything about the "type of corporate policy" you mentioned. Surely, there's more than that to the "type of corporate policy" you find objectionable.
