Hello Answer Line,

I been trying to find a solution to this problem ever since Windows 8 was released to the public on October 26, 2012.
I installed and configured Microsoft Outlook 2010 fresh (no importing of profiles or old PST) on Windows 8. Import PFX into the CAPI store with high or medium level security into the Personal store. Use Outlook to send the secure or signed massage to yourself.
Outlook will hang during send of e-mail with sign and encrypt option. It will hang as well while trying to read encrypted message. Outlook will hang during start up if the first message in Inbox is encrypted.

Outlook should not have administrator privileges to access personal certificate store.

I posted on Microsoft Community site but got nothing:
Can't Sign or Open Encrypted Messages - Outlook Not Responding

I tried calling but was forced on dead end path for a $105 support cost.

The current workaround is to use Windows Live Mail Desktop for Windows 8 but most of my data is on Outlook.

So please help.

I think this topic is in the wrong forum because it is not a common problem. You can delete this or move it. I was trying to delete myself.

I would be happy to find a solution if people can find the answer.

@maxknux

Do Not Worry.

If The PCW Staff Thinks This Thread Would Be Better In Another Forum They Will Move It.

PS.

The Delay On Helping You Is Perhaps Related With The Decrease On Visitors To This Site Forums Since PCW Made A FaceLift Half A Year Ago.

Good Luck.

I didn't reply because I don't have the expertise.

Thanks people,

I found out there is nothing I can do until a fix from Microsoft is pushed out. So far this thread offers the latest details:
Outlook configured on Windows 8 required elevation in order to access private key

Also the same problem happens with Outlook 2013. So just wait for the fix.

Yeah, There is finally a hotfix to this Issue:
Application freezes when you access a password protected certificate in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012
