To mail a letter by US postal only cost $.45 If anything, Facebook should charge at the most $.50 Charging $1 is price-gauging. But than if you ask me, e-mails have been free and should stay that way. I personally don't use Facebook nor will I ever.

And you know what's funny? Most of the snail mail I get these days is junk. Meanwhile my Gmail inbox is spam-free.

How is this dollar billed? So Facebook will now have access to your credit?
Get off before it's too late.

I do not want strangers emailing me. If this happens, I will be leaving facebook. If someone wants to email you all they have to do if send a friend request. Why does facebook want to create more problems by doing something so stupid. I already get email from Twitter accounts occasionally saying something that is aimed at trying to upset people by saying, "someone is saying nasty things about you on facebook." I don't even open up messages from anyone I do not know or have not subscribed to. I did once on a Twitter message sent to my email address and it turned out the page was infected as I got a virus warning.

This is just another possible problem with facebook allowing strangers to send messages to your inbox. They could link you to an infected page.

I suggest everyone who is against it to let their voice be heard on facebook.

I have a better idea for facebook it they started charging $100 to check out the hidden albums. Or $450 for reading the messages among one of your friend and $1000 to get a stealth screen for one of the friend's account or strangers. After-all Facebook is promoting stalkers and people searches to earn through..

Oh great, really FB? If it weren't for some of the groups at school using FB, I wouldn't be on it at all. (that said, considering my account is unsearchable and I've only friended a few people, I guess spammers wouldn't be able to know about my account in the first place...)

My actual comment was cut-off, Oh well. Obviously this is a profit making move. However, I don't see how it's much of a problem though. Strangers already have the ability to send you messages. The only difference is that they now have the ability to send the message to your main inbox rather than your "other" inbox IF they're willing to pay. I think it's a smart move personally. Most spammers probably won't even bother and that leaves only people who are most desperate to contact you actually ending up paying. The only difference I would make is raising the price to $2 and split it 50/50 between facebook and the user who gets messaged. That ought to quell any potential outrage over this. I bet you'd be a helluva a lot more tolerant of spam if you were getting paid to receive it. Amirite?

I'm 50+ yrs., new to internet, new to facebook. I found my old friends and classmates by searching their name in facebook and sending them a message descrbing where I knew them from. If when they read my message they realize they know me, they message or friend request back to me. If it is not them, they don't have to answer. Isn't it no more than a wrong number on the phone if I have the wrong person? What's the big deal? If I "friend request" 1st, get accepted and then after exchanging messages realize it is not the person I was looking for, I have to delete the friendship. Not everybody accepts 500 "friends", some only want people they actually do know.

Now that the anyone can message you, friends or strangers, it may get into your ''inbox'' or ''others'' ,its just the same.. If I check my inbox, I still see the ''others'' with a message from people who harasses me, send me stupid messages and bullying me. See, if I block this person, she can still send me messages with her many facebook accounts.. Even if It won't get directly to my inbox, I still receive it.. I can still read it.. I like how it was before..

this is totally annoying why dose facebook keep trying things like this it's a fail allot of people may just leave facebook if they keep trying to change things to this pay [censored] sometimes its not such a great idea i would say if some one wants to charge let it be up to the facebook user with that account just the same with webcam chats have it where the user can set limits on what the person has to pay to chat with you but as always facebook is a non adult site so this may not be such a great idea

On the flipside, this also leaves people you DO know having to pay a dollar to message you if they aren't on your friends list already. I recently tried to message a buddy from work to make sure it was him before I sent a friend request and got the message that it would cost me a dollar. An added note, I can't even FIND my "other" folder on Facebook...
