It is very poorly designed, and is very irritating to use and I curse all the stupid Microsoft programmers who worked and designed this abysmal OS.
I hear that Microsoft realizes their huge mistake and is working hard and fast to release a fixed and properly designed Windows 9 which may be released this coming summer. I hope and pray that this is true, otherwise it is bankruptcy for inept Microsoft.

So what? Did MS even suggest it would? What's the rush?
"The inability of W8 to keep pace with Vista is a troubling sign"
Why? On the back of an only recently released W7, why would satisfied users upgrade? And bearing in mind corporate users have still not, or have only just upgraded to W7, why would they upgrade?
"Windows 8—and the PCs that run it—must compete with tablets"
Hogwash! You are simply comparing chalk with cheese! Content creators need a tablet like an extra hole in the butt - and PC's are actually useful.
No one, not even MS is pushing upgrades - so what is the issue? W8 is available - if you want it.
I have both chalk and cheese: a W7 desktop and a new Samsung W8 Pro tablet. It's like having both a wrench and a screwdriver in the toolbox.
But what is the point of arguing: heads are clearly buried in the sand here.

A company 115 users move to WIN8 and Office 2013 at a cost of NZ$850 per seat not including HW and Application requirements, we wont/dont use upgrades, or touch screens, and phones are phones NOT computers.
When we can move to Linux flavor Zorin 6 Ultimate, "http://zorin-os.com/premium.html" for NZ$30.00 with DVD and Support.
This includes Libra Office and a full range of Applications Business, Multimedia, Gaming, you don't need to purchase anything else.
Zorins UI is much like WIN7 and it also has an application to run MS applications, have a look.
Sorry MS you just lost our seats, and our financial controller loves the saving in the bank.

Hell with a "fixed" W9, how about a "fixed" "SP" for W8 users NOW

End-users be d*mned! They *will* like Windows 8 whether they want to or not!!! The Great Ballimer has Spoken!

I promise you that if Win 8 realistically delivered *even half* of the end-user efficiency improvements that it promised, businesses would be *clamoring* to upgrade.
However, IT Pros with extensive experience in the nature and requirements of end-users knew from the beginning that Win 8 would be a disaster.
And here we are.... (Except for the Astro-turfers and M$ groupies.)
The only difference between Vista and Win 8 is that Vista's flaws were unintentional. Win 8 design was intentionally blasted through with relentless stupidity. But you can bet that Ballimer will still get his bonuses!

Not likely. Anything re-engineered that quickly will not be great -- even if they really are doing it.
And what a (bad) joke this is: The time lapse between Win 7 and Win 8 is the fastest I've seen for the huge changes in the platform. Whether it's carpentry or programming, a job can be done fast, good, or cheap. You can get any two of those qualities -- *but you can't get all three.*
Seriously, us end-users will foot the bill for M$'s stupidity in Win 8. Just like we always do. M$ releases a crappy new platform -- then releases a second "new" platform that does nothing but fix the problems of the first. ...And we pay for both.
If you think the *government* wastes your *tax* dollars-- I guarantee mega-corps like M$, ATT, (et al) wastes FAR more of your *spending* dollars due to stupidity and business politics....!!

Come back in one year to see the real picture. Just like Windows 7 was.
As for me, and all of my friends and colleagues, it is Windows 8 all the way! Completely satisfied and impressed no less. So far, no touch necessary! Only my old trusty mouse.

I sure don't remember many people complaining about 7 when it came out, if ever. 8 on the other hand...

Dear Brian, you obviously forgot, it's all there @ PCWorld! The day I joined back on January 16 2009, I joined because there was so much BS+FUD that my mission was to set the record straight, with simple, verifiable facts. Now almost everyone claims they like Win7. But that wasn't the case back then. Where do you think my 6000+ posts came from? Debunking FUD, not with one liners, but with posts packing real substance. Not just mere opinions, or prejudice.

Anyway, who cares?, Windows FTW! As far as I am concerned!

Sure, no matter what, you'll always get a few idiots. That said, when you have a huge portion of the userbase and a LOT of reviewers complaining about something that should've been easy to fix, you've got a problem.

Look, darling: canned vague posts like this don't help demonstrate why Win8 is, as you say, superior. MS' own explanations and especially ads, are just as canned and vague, using DANCERS instead of FACTS, for crying out loud.
We don't want teenage dancers. That makes Win8 look like the stupid product it is. We want INFO. We're not getting it.
WHY is Win8 better, tell us that. 3000 user reviews I've read in Amazon and Tiger Direct, etc., not to mention all the commenters on articles who actually USED it, all report horror stories. I bought Win8 upgrades (2x), but don't want to even bother installing, since after watching pro- and con- Win8 usage videos in Youtube, I realized Win8 is a pile of junk.
Windows 7 is better than Vista but worse than XP, so the initial complaining against Win7, remains apt. However, some of what was wrong in XP, is fixed in Win7, making it usable. I just amended my review of Windows 7 in Amazon, listing the details. So why can't I find such a DETAILED review for Windows 8 by a fanboy, like yourself? The only folks giving detailed reviews, explain what's wrong with it. Else, all we hear are Win8 chirpers. It gets old.
Prove me wrong. Please. I spent $130 for the Win8 upgrades, and need convincing they are worth even trying.
