I have this Sandisk 2gb microSD card from my Nokia cell phone, I took some file from a friend via Bluetooth and after that it corrupted the phone software, when I took out the memory card the phone seemed to work fine, So I tried to format the memory card, phone formatted the memory card but made it corrupted and the phone started showing "memory card corrupted", when I tried to format the card again, the phone showed the message "Operation failed, unable to format",

Then I tried to format this memory card on my xp machine via the phone USB connection, my pc reads it as a removable disk of 2gb(1.83gb) but when I try to open it asks to format it but when I format it says "Windows was unable to format', I've tried to format it with several ways I found online like,

1. I tried to format it from ''my computer'' with FAT system/quick format, FAT system/Normal format, FAT32/quick format and FAT32/normal format, it doesn't format, it always shows "Windows was unable to complete format" .

2. Tried to format it via Disk management via my computer>manage>disk management>it shows my SD card is healthy and is 2gb(1.83gb) but again it won't format the card.

3. Tried cmd>diskpart>list disk>it doesn't show the SD card

I want to save this card at any cost because I know its not entirely destroyed. please help me format this memory card so it becomes usable!

Hey Stevey,
From everything you've said it would appear that the memory card has failed (the fact that it won't format is the biggest indicator). It was probably a coincidence that it failed when you were transferring that file, unless it was something REALLY nasty.

Hey compnovo,
Well thank god, someone replied at last! I understand what you mean but I'd still be a little skeptical about the physical health of this card as my pc disk management and my computer window read it as a healthy disk. Also the utility I got off the OEM site. Somewhere I got a hint that it may be the phone thats preventing it from the format , so this time lets try it with a card reader! I'll let you know..-have a nice week many blessings..

This is one of those times I'd be happy to be wrong. :D
Let us know how it turns out.

Bid farewell and goodbye to the little fella, unable to format with the card reader as well,
the most it could show was declaring the card as ''right protected'' and asked to release the switch, well to my knowledge there isn't any switch on this microSD card to release  ...unfortunately along with the card my long run fav cell phone passed away too...
it was a double KO <_<

btw, thanks for the help, one love
