"carries 230 pixels per inch—not as much as the Apple iPad does, at 264 ppi,"

So... it's still not as good as the ipad. Sorry... thanks but no thanks. I want better than... not just bigger than.

If you haven't seen windows 8, what they've done with it essentially makes tablets as you knew them and laptops merged into one. It has a full operating system, not just the mini type OS you see on other devices.

They have smaller ones if you want all the way down to a phone with windows 8, but again... it's to replace a laptop.

If they could bring the price down to the $1500 range, it suddenly becomes the premiere tool for professional(and enthusiastic amuetuer) artists. OF course, theyd need to swap in Wacom for everyone to be happy.

I wonder if Wacoms own tablets are going to lower in price, and whether we will get more choices for sizes.

If you use a simple number like ppi to decide if something is "as good as" something else, then this product isn't for you.

As the article says, this tablet will "target specific audiences." An artist or architect will find a 20" tabet with a 4K display infinitely more useful than an iPad.

See above, this isn't for you.

What a piece of crap. 4K to display those ugly square tiles of Windows 8? Wake me when they put an operating system I can actually be productive with on that device.

Ok, you have made a idiotic mistake of thinking that because a tablet has 30 ppi more than another tablet it is better. 30 ppi isn't even a noticeable difference. But there is a major difference between the ipad and this tablet. The fact that it is 4x bigger than the ipad. I am still trying to wrap my head around how idiotic your comment was. Anyways this tablet is better than the ipad in more ways than being 4x bigger. It runs the full version of Windows 8 instead of a crappy mobile operating system. This is designed to do anything while the ipad was designed to play crappy games.

Waste of money, piece of crap, it runs Microsoft's monopoly operating system. Panasonic you are not doing yourself a favor by supporting Microsoft, and credit rating is already on junk status. And it cost 4K, only a Microsoft sheep would buy that.

You can also use it as an anchor for a small yacht with some epoxy and a long rope.

I feel sorry for OEM's. All that commoditized hardware at the mercy of an operating system that looks like it was designed by Fisher-Price.

Attention OEM's:

Wake up!! Closed operating systems are not the future. Open is the future. iOS, Android, and Windows 8, and Windows Phone 8 are all closed models.

Check out ReactOS.

LOL Ur FuNnY ! Apple is left behind? Ohh, pooh pooh.

How can you claim "still not as good as the iPad"? Based on what criteria?

You want better than any Apple iDevice?

Simple, for just $399, intelligent consumers will choose the Google Samsung Nexus 10 tablet, way better in every respect, functionally, technologically, mechanically, ergonomically, software system and component quality wise, than any Apple product. PERIOD.

Ignorant consumers will choose form over function, hype over substance, just for the 'looks'. Probably because of mental cognitive dissonance, and the fact they feel they are inadequate without realizing they are victims of accessories. It's a documented mental illness you know?

I got mine in 4 days after ordering it online, to my door. It is just simply AWESOME! And it fits & syncs with my Google Samsung Nexus OLED phone.

Didn't you know the latest iPad Retina Display is manufactured by Samsung? Same goes for the MacBook Pro. Do you realize Samsung only give their scraps to Apple? They keep the best ingredients for themselves? That is the prerogative of being a true state-of-the-art manufacturer. Not merely an artsy-fruity designer who orders menus cooked by a real chef with talent and skills...

Quality and price have no relationship.

Apple is so yesterday. And realize these humongous Apple profits are made upon your collective backs only! Too bad. So sad.

if you base you decision on comparing two numbers only you clearly have no clue what those numbers even mean. Opinions such as yours are irrelevant. In the future, please save yourself (and us) the embarrassment/annoyance of opening your mouth and proving how much of an idiot you are.

This device is EXCELLENT for (among others) engineering and art students and professionals. It is excellent in an office setting where a team could stand around a tablet and do group planning. I have a coffee table that would benefit very nicely with the addition of this tablet. In a common home, this tablet would market for places where you want a flat, chic, unobtrusive computing presence. In the workplace this tablet would market to group planning and team settings. I do software architecture planning all the time. I would love one of these sitting in a small corner of my office, where i could go and doodle my ideas, or play some touch tetris or some other silly diversion for 5 minutes to unwind.

I'm so glad to see the OEMs doing something with Windows 8 touch. Seeing as they totally blew off windows 7 touch capabilities. It will be so nice to see new products like this that can be used for work as well as play.

This is a very powerful tablet, but i feel it will struggle as a capable desktop replacement or a tablet. i hope that panasonic has fully researched the taste of their target market in order for this wonderful device not becoming a complete flop.
