Nowhere does the New York Times use the word "girlfriend". Other publications have now quoted PC World. It may be true, and it does not matter. What matters is that PC World is presumably "reporting news". With that activity comes the "responsibility" to print "facts". Suggest editors start by Googling these latter terms.

Now i know your going to say I'm a conspiracy nut , but .
I don't see suicide in these charges . Maybe the depression ? I don't know ?
But not induced by the charges .

Hi -- I'm the author of this article. The version of the New York Times article I referenced indeed states that his "girlfriend had discovered the body." I know because I printed it out and I have it right here in front of me. I see now that the Times changed the wording on their article, but that happened after I wrote my story. I also don't see a clarification or correction on the Times' site regarding this change. -- thanks, Juan C. Perez

It is good that you are able to clarify this. I stand corrected, and apologize for the implication that you lack journalistic integrity.

That was an extremely career limiting move on her part, and that of the blind prosecutors under her hungry to make a name for themselves. It is sad to say, but Universal Karma and the Internet is going to haunt you all for the rest of your lives. Shame on all of you!
As to Aaron Swartz, the world will miss you, your vision, courage and your genius. RIP.
All my condolences to his family and loved ones.
The justice system here is completely screwed up! Slap on the wrist for white-collar criminals affecting thousands of lives if not millions, yet up to 50 years for idealists believing the world is what we make of it.

Polnick you are assuming the investigators were lazy and corrupt. Right now it's 50/50 as to weather or not it was a suicide, but that has no bearing on the investigators who were nowhere near the scene when the incident occurred. There may have been foul play, but think about it; there was already a very public court case which was about to impose retribution on him and place him in confinement. If there were foul play, I would think it was more likely to be one of his fellow 'hacktivists' who had something to hide. If you have any confusion about what is what, remember; Bad guys hurt people, and Good Guys hurt Bad guys.
